Why He's Included and How to Use Effectively

Note quite a tank in the conventional crpg use of the word because his strength isn't great, and his poor Dexterity demands that he wear gauntlets other than the Gauntlets of Ogre Strength. He's more of a front-line guardian.

He pretty much needs to use the Gauntlets of Dexterity, more so than anybody else in the evil party. But this means he's can't use the Gauntlets of Ogre Strength. He's thus not that much of a damage dealer. Keep in mind that's not a huge concern, since Asteroth and Shar-Teel are more than able to pick up the slack in that regard. But when you add together his high hit points, his ability to wear the very best armors and shield, and the armor class bonus from the Gauntlets of Dexterity, what Kagain offers is a rock-solid front-liner who can interpose himself in between the monsters and Viconia and Edwin with little fear for his own safety. The analogy I would make is that Kagain resembles an offensive guard who protects the quarterback during an American football game.

As soon as I get Kagain, I pretty much jack up his Axes skill as high I can. Between the Battle Axe +2 and the Throwing Axe +2, he'll be pretty much set. I will branch him out into War Hammer, so that he can switch to the War Hammer +1, +4 vs. giants if he comes across Ogres or skeletons and such.

For certain key fights Kagain can indeed become a heavy damage dealer. All he needs to do is chug a Potion of Giant Strength. Couple this with the bonuses from Grandmastery in Axes and Kagain can suddenly transform into a powerhouse of damage.
