UKPYR

On my way to Ukpyr, my intention is to complete the Snakespeed Potion.

Map F4

Map FG5

Map G4

Blue Mythia

I reach the north edge of the F4 map, and continue to the Glade where I used the Necromantic Helm (#1 on the F4 map).

I keep going southward from there, fighting plenty of monsters along the way. Errol reaches 92 Thaumaturgy on his 15th level-up, and also takes Asphyxiate. Terra at this point also remembers to scribe her Book of Banishment in order to obtain the Astral Gate spell.

I then continue southwards until I come to about the northwest corner of the F/G5 map. I go to about #2 on the F/G5 map. And from there I continue a little east and north.

Rothgar advances to his 15th level after I've fought enough monsters along the way. His 5 Academic Skill Points on level-up wasn't quite enough to bring him to 98 Theology points. But I don't mind, as he got 12 Hit Points. I take Purify Air for him, which gives him the option of getting rid of Draining Clouds, Fire Storms and Poison Gas when I need it.

I wind up on the south edge of the F4 map. I then follow the curve in the southeast portion of the F4 map, and end up at the bottom portion of the G4 map.

At #1 is a flower. When trying to pick it, I end up in a fight with a Mountain Thraxe, which by now shouldn't be difficult to kill.

I obtain the Blue Mythia, which I then merge with the Red Rosis in order to get the Mythia & Rosis.

Yellow Lione and the Snakespeed Potion

Now I backtrack, and get the east edge of the F4 map. I then go northwards, fighting monsters along the way. Chun-Li takes Resurrection on her 15th level-up.

Note #2 in the northeast corner of the F4 map. That is the entrance to Sphynx Cave, which I'm not ready to go to just yet. Instead, I want to head east on the trail just a little south of #2. This brings me to the north portion of the G4 map.

Then I go to #2 on the G4 map, where I find the last of the five flowers, the Yellow Lione. I then merge the Yellow Lione with the Purple Plumac to get the Plumac & Lione. I then merge that with the Rosis & Mythia to get the Orchid Ambrosia. I then merge the Orchid Ambrosia to get the Snakespeed Potion. Ryu drinks the potion to get the Snakespeed personal skill. My rationale for this is that there may be a battle or two where I want Ryu to strike and go into hiding without ever being detected, and while everybody else is in hiding or invisible too.

Now I head back, and take the road on the F/G5 map that leads to Ukpyr.

Ukpyr North

Ukpyr South

New Recruits

The video starts with me arriving at #6 on the Ukpyr North map, and indicate that I'm willing to join the Umpani as "New Recruits".

I then head over to #3 on the Ukpyr South map, where Sergeant Balbrak gives me my first mission, getting equipped and trained. Note that nothing hinges at all on you wearing the pathetic Flak Vests or using the weak-damaging Muskets. All of this is just going through the motions.

By the way, remember to carry the IUFS Badge, and any new orders you are given.

Now I head to #4 on the Ukpyr North map, give my orders, and then get my gear. Again, just going through the motions.

I then head over to #5, where I'm told to complete my training. Remember, nothing hinges on whether or not you hit three times at the range, or even fire at the range at all. The key point here is to get your new orders to bring back to Sergeant Balbrak.

T'Rang Spies

My next mission is to take out a group of T'Rang spies. They can be found at #2 on the F/G5 map.

Here I am faced with a genuine roleplaying choice. K'Borra T'Rang, the leader of the spies, has a mission for me. He wants me to find the co-ordinates of the Umpani Ship. The co-ordinates he speaks of can be found at #15 on the Ukpyr North map. They are "S:18,49 D:34,82,+17". Keep in mind that if you fulfill this mission, you will have to fight Umpani guards leading up to #15, and the Umpani will become your permanent enemies while sealing your alliance with the T'Rang.

If, however, you want to kill K'Borra and complete the mission for Sergeant Balbrak, this will make the T'Rang your permanent enemies but seal your alliance with the Umpani. This was my roleplaying choice.

K'Borra is easily taken out, while my Priest renders the Wilders helpless with a Silence spell.

I return to the Recruiting Station and report my success to Sergeant Balbrak.

Rodan Lewarx

I come back and report my success. Sergeant Balbrak's next mission is for me to deliver a message to Rodan Lewarx. He'll also give you a Humpa Card to open the door at #7 on the Ukpyr South map so that you can use the Humpawhammer (teleporter), which is at #8.

Once you take the Humpawhammer, I simply step through the door and give the message to Rodan, who apparently disregards it and goes off hunting for Shritis T'Rang.

I return to Ukpyr through the Humpawhammer, and report to Sergeant Balbrak. He now wants me to report to General Yamo in the main headquarters.

General Yamo

The entrance to Command Headquarters is at #9 on the Ukpyr North map.

Once I do enter the headquarters, the only place I can enter for now is the General's own office at #18. He then gives me a mission, and a Thermal Pineapple (the use for this will become apparent later on), with the goal of reaching and killing the T'Rang Queen, H'Jennra T'Rang. No sooner have I gotten the mission than the T'Rang have launched a massive attack of explosions that kills the General, and opens up several new walls.

This also means that you're now free to explore previously unavailable areas now that the Umpani have dispersed. At #12 is a Map Room that provides a hint as to an important location in the game.

I kill several Spectral Ravens along the way. Terra maxes out her Thaumaturgy to 98, and brings her Theology to 90, on her 15th level-up. She also takes Cure Stone.

At some point I run into Xen Xheng again, and treat it as an opportunity. I initially thought I was going to have Ryu import a Wakizashi alongside a Katana into Wizardry 8. But on reconsideration I think I'll be taking a Sai instead of that Wakizashi, so I grab the opportunity to purchase it.

By way of explanation, the chests at #13 and #14 simply hold mundane Umpani-style equipment.

At #11 is the Security Station where I learn an important code, "2723539".

*NOTE* If you choose to ultimately side with the T'Rang, you could make a killing (i.e., lots of experience points) by simply going to #9 as often as you like, since each time you would fight elite Umpani warriors who would not be especially dangerous for a mid-level party but would yield lots of experience points.

Now that Ukpyr has more or less been destroyed, my next destination is the Sphynx Cave. But first I go through the Humpawhammer at #8.
