GIANT CAVE

Giant Cave - Map F2

Giant Cave - Map F3

Giant Cave - Map E3

To Giant Cave

When I first emerge from the Funhouse, I will be at #1 on the F2 map. Now I want to make my way to the nearby Giant Cave.

Along the way, I run into various monsters of the wild life sort. There are two that appear in the video that are worth mentioning.

You will likely have run into Glow Mothras by now, which can use a Spell spell kind of effect. The Lunar Mothra has more Hit Points and can use an acid breath weapon against multiple party members.

Forest Giants, like all other giants, have a lot of Hit Points but tend to be slow. Their single attack each round is unlikely to connect against a well-armored party, but that attack can really hurt when it happens to connnect.

I go south, and then towards #1 on the F3 map. I go west, and then do the little curl around that appears in the northeast corner of the E3 map. Chun-Li takes Lifeteal on her 13th level-up after fighting enough monsters.

I then go to #2 on the F3 map. This is the entrance to the Giant Cave. I had cast Levitate hoping to avoid a fall, but my climbing skills need more practice. Oh well.

The Giant Cave

Climbing Practice

That brings me to #1 on the map of the Giant Cave. Now I grab the opportunity to climb back up, climb back down, rinse and repeat until everyone in the party has perfect 100 Skill Points in Climbing.

I take a few falls during the early parts of practice. But that isn't a big deal. Chun-Li and Terra regenerate naturally with their Diamond Rings, as does Rothgar with his Amulet of Life. Zarax passes around his Cameo Locket until the other party members are healed too.

And once everyone has improved enough, I can go up and down, up and down without any worry until I get those perfect 100s. That will stand me in good stead when I am soon forced to make a very challenging climb.

Brunatz

Somewhere inbetween #1 and #6 on the map is a giant named Brunatz, whom I kill rather easily. The deal with giants is that when they happen to land a hit successfully, it can score a lot of damage. The good news is that it will happen rarely.

Swimming Practice

Now I take the opportunity to go into the water just south of #6, pull myself back ashore and rest, rinse and repeat until every party obtains perfect 100 Skill Points in Swimming. The reason for doing it now is that there's a very long swim within this cave that I'll need to complete.

I do occasionally have to deal with monsters attacking me in my sleep. Zarax advances to his 15th level. And again, 10+ Hit Points and more than one Personal Skill Point to put into Power Attack is all I ask.

The Chest across the Water

Now I head to #6. My ultimate destination is #5, and this means a long swim across a lengthy stretch of water. Remember, if any character runs out of stamina while on water, that character will drown. So it is imperative that you somehow make it across without running out of stamina, a tall order indeed.

Now I swim towards #5, and have to fight five Piranha Sharks and nine Red Piranhas along the way. It provides enough xp for Terra to advance to her 13th level. She takes Purify Air, which gives her the option of getting rid of things like Draining Cloud, Poison Gas and Fire Storm.

Everyone is of course very low on stamina as a result of both the swimming and the battle. Terra, Rothgar and Chun-Li recoup everybody's stamina with the Stamina spell. Note that Restfull can be handy when you need to pick everybody back up during a battle. But in this situation, Stamina recoups far more stamina for an individual character than Restfull, and with far less Water mana expended in the aggregate.

Now I reach #5. The chest will have:

L'il Ogo

Now I swim north and land on the shore east of #6. I continue north and defeat another giant named L'il Ogo. Remember, it hurts only if they can hit you.

Ryu takes Create Life, another summoning option, on his 13th level-up.

Munstachio

I continue further north and defeat another giant named Munstachio. I return south to the shoreline.

Red Rosis

Now I swim south and kill several Red Piranhas along the way.

I obtain a Red Rosis at #2, which will be one ingredient for the Snakespeed potion.

I swim south, and fight random monsters in the southeast corner of the cave. I then swim back across the water, but more to the east so that I'm on the eastern edge of the cave.

Gruengard

I travel northeast and defeat a giant named Gruengard in the cavern just southwest of #3. He can apparently cast Sleep. Not that it does much good.

Bonehead

I fight another giant named Bonehead, who can be found north of #3. He can also spit bile so as to damage and nauseate multiple party members, although that did not come up when I kill him.

* SPOT *

Now I hit the lever at #3. On the other side is the apparent pet dinosaur of the giants, * SPOT *. He's much the same as the giants themselves though. It will hurt when he hits, but that is rare. The difference is that he lasts a good deal longer than any giant you'll run into.

Necromantic Helm

At #4 I find a Necromantic Helm, a quest item that will come into play quite soon.

Rothgar wears it for the rest of the game. It's not a top-tier helmet, but I can live with that for a character who fights with an extended range polearm from the back ranks.

I make my way back to the initial entrance at #1, fighting a few monsters along the way. Errol takes Deep Freeze on his 14th level-up.

Now I make for Witch Mountain.
