SPHYNX CAVE

New City South

Rebus Egge

Before I can actually complete the Sphynx Cave, I need to get an item from New City first. Conveniently, I can take the Humpawhammer, which brings to #21 on the New City South map. #22 by the way is where I met Rodan.

Just one square south of #22, I get asked for a security code. It is "2723539", as per when I explored the Umpani Security Station. This opens the way to the room that is one square south of #21. In a chest is a Comm-Link Device. More on this later.

Now I head to #23, and pick the locked door. I then make my way to #24, where I find a Copper Penny. I also press the button here, which opens the way to a room, designated by the black square just one east of #24. Here is a chest that can very difficult for a lower-level rogue-character to open. It has a Poison Dagger, a Death Shroud, and Deadman's Hair. None of these items are particularly useful to me, and in fact the Death Shroud is both harmful and cursed. I do however get 2,500 xp for opening the chest.

The door at #25 requires the Copper Penny to open. At #26, I must persist in keeping my hands in the vat in order to get a quest item, the Rebus Egge. This has the consequence of one of my characters getting diseased. This is the key reason I put this part of New City off until now. It was simply not practical until at least one my characters, Rothgar in this instance, could cast Cure Disease.

I then take the Humpawhammer back to Ukpyr.

Ukpyr South

It brings me to #8 on the Ukpyr South map. I go north until I am on the Ukpyr North map.

Ukpyr North

And I continue north until I leave Ukpyr through the entrance at #6.

Map FG5

That brings me to the south side of the FG5 map. I follow the road until I reach #2. I go east for a bit and then north.

Map F4

That brings to to the southeast portion of the F4 map. I follow the trail northwards.

I do fight some monsters along the way. Ryu takes Cure Disease on his 15th level-up. I insist on at least 9+ Hit Points, and at least two Personal Skill Points to put into Snake Speed.

I continue on until I reach the entrance to the Sphinx Cave that is a little north of #2.

Sphynx Cave

Wand Majestik

I start off at #1 on the Sphinx Cave map. I make my way towards #2. I then swim across, and hit the lever at #3. This opens the wall at #4.

I then go to #5. Note the 6 squares marked as 'W'. You cannot swim across this area, no matter how good your Swimming skill is. You'll always drown cause this area is a whirlpool.

You need to use the Rebus Egge at #5. A Sphinx will arrive, speak rather cryptic words, and then leave behind a rainbow bridge that allows you to cross the whirlpool.

I search at #6 and get the Wand Majestik, which is a quest item I'll need to access one of the last dungeons.

I take the rainbow bridge back across, travel back to Ukpyr, and teleport to New City through the Humpawhammer.

My next destination is Dionysceus. This can be dangerous because of the many Dane, some of whom will be powerful magic users. But it is my preference, largely because there will be an opportunity to max out my mental resistance before I take on the T'Rang, as well as the Dark Savant and his allies.
