NYCTALINTH

To Nyctalinth

My next destination is Nyctalinth. I won't do everything there is to do in Nyctalinth, at least not yet. I will be making a return trip later on to clean the place out. But for now, there's a clue I want to pick up here while still keeping my options open about whether or not to ally with the T'Rang or the Umpani.

Now as for how to get to Nyctalinth. First, I backtrack to where I first met Lord Galiere on the D-3 map.

I keep going north, and this leads me to the southeast corner of the C-2 map.

I keep going north, and end up on the east end of the C1 map.

I head west along the road all the way through. Don't worry about #3 and #4 for now, at least if you're following this guide. I'll get to those later. But now I end up at the east end of the B-C / 0 Map.

And of course, I just keep following the road westwards. Just as an aside, if you killed Bela in Wizardry 6 and flew by yourself in the spaceship, #1 is where you'll end up. Going westwards brings me to the spot marked 'B-1' on the B1 Map.

#1 is the entrance to Nyctalinth. The T'Rang who stand guard direct me to seek out their leader, H'Jennra T'Rang.

Now here's the layout for Nyctalinth itself ...

Nyctalinth South

I hunt around in all the un-numbered rooms for monsters and experience. A foe you may run into will be T'Rang Tecniks. Either kill them as quickly as you can or Silence them, as they can cast Psionic spells including Psionic Blast. T'Rang Wilders are also spellcasters, but not as dangerous as the Tecnicks.

I sometimes get interrupted when I try to rest between fights. Sometimes tactics have to change to account for who's awake and who's asleep. For example, Ryu uses a Fire Bomb spell to blow away several Dane when he was one of the few party members asleep.

Another example had only Zarax and Terra awake against 7 T'Rang Wilders and 6 Dane. I guessed that the Dane were Initiates, so Zarax wipes them out all at once with his acid breath. Terra cast Silence on the Wilders.

Shritis T'Rang

I go through the door at #8 on the Nyctalinth North map. Note that if I try to go to #11, the T'Rang will go hostile on me. I don't want that, at least not yet. I north to #9 and meet H'Jennra T'rang, the leader of the T'Rang on Lost Guardia. He wants me to deliver the message, "To Strike", to the T'Rang Ninja, Shritis T'Rang.

So then I go the teleporter at #10, which the T'Rang call the Anthracax. I hit the lever.

New City North

And then I find myself at #29 on the New City North map. Now I go to #30 and meet Shritis, and then tell him "To Strike". He promptly leaves. As an aside, in my experience I often find it a good idea to set Shritis loose. The reason is that there are a lot of other NPCs on the prowl for the maps you yourself are looking for. Shritis has a discernable habit of tracking down and killing your competition (he's a very high-level Ninja with a lot of hit points).

At #31 is a chest that holds a Control Card, a quest item that will be useful later on.

Now I take the Anthracax back to Nyctalinth, and report my success to H'Jennra T'Rang. At this point, he has a quest for me, to find the Boat Map in Rattkin Ruins. He also relates a clue as to how to open the container that holds it:

"The first is not before the third, nor the second but first after the sixth, it is the fifth that is first, and the fourth after third which is second, and only then shall the way be revealed."

It is at this point, having gotten the clue I was looking for, that I decide to stop working for the T'Rang. I use the Anthracax to head back to New City.

I make as to leave New City through the east gate at #2 when I run into Kymas Turan. Nothing comes it though and we part ways. My next destination is Munkharama.
