KAELYN, F NG HALF-CELESTIAL CLERIC 17

Kaelyn

Kaelyn is one of those characters that can become really powerful by combining several features into one. She combines her Cleric spells with Paladin-like abilities, spell resistance that increases with each level, and the ability to summon a Planetar once each day. A very useful character to have along.

Stats

Skills

Kaelyn emphasizes Concentration, Lore and Spellcraft.

She starts off by getting 7 skill points in Use Magic Device, even though she has to pay on a 2 for 1 basis. 7 skill points, plus her own Charisma bonus, plus a Cloak with a Charisma bonus of at least +6, plus adding another 2 points to Charisma during her level ups, will allow her to wear the (soon to be further enchanted) Boots of the Sun Soul +4 without a hitch.

After that, she plays catch up by emphasizing Spellcraft so that she can qualify for the epic spells.

Feats

Starting Feats:

18th level: Tower Shield Proficiency - The higher armor class is often worth investing a feat in Tower Shield Proficiency. In Kaelyn's case, I have her equip a specific tower shield that is found very early in the expansion, and also provides her with a Strength bonus.

21st level: Extend Spell - So that she can use spells like Stone Body and Battletide at twice their usual duration, in exchange for having to memorize such spells on spell-level higher. The price is more than worth it. It is also a prerequisite for the Persistent Spell feat.

23rd level:

Empower Spell - I won't really be able to take full advantage of this feat until Valeria gains enough influence with Kaelyn, whereupon it turns into the Improved Empower Spell feat. A key point here is that Kaelyn will then be able to cast an Empowered Fire Storm as a 9th level spell, which Clerics normally would be unable to do.

Persistent Spell - Allows Kaelyn to memorize a Persistent Prayer as a 9th level spell, and a Persistent Divine Favor as a 7th level spell.

25th level: Cleave - Kaelyn is usually at best a situational spellcaster, and by contrast performs as a front-line tank quite often. I therefore give her this feat to increase her number of attacks quite significantly. It will activate frequently due to her ability to land hefty damage with a Warhammer that packs multiple sources of elemental damage as well.

26th level: Great Cleave - This may trigger occasionally, depending on whether offensive spells have softened up the monsters beforehand or if Kaelyn manages to score triple-damage critical hits with her Warhammer.

27th level: Divine Shield - Now Kaelyn can add a dodge bonus to armor class that will stack with everything else that's equal to her Charisma bonus modifier. It will also last for as many rounds as her Charisma bonus modifier. Can really come in handy during particularly intense fights.

29th level: Damnation - A single-target instant death spell with a nice boost to saving throw DC. It also bypasses the Death Ward spell.

Great Charisma - Kaelyn will get a +9 to Charisma from her cloak, so it makes sense to take this and round out her Charisma to the next even number integer.
