KULDAHAR VALLEY

Goblin Stockade

In the middle of this valley is a Goblin stockade erected around a broken down house. There are a lot of Goblins here. But again, you can use the geography to your advantage. Creep forward slowly instead of bull rushing ahead. Once a few show up within your fog of war, hold your position. Any nearby foot soldiers have to take the long way around and down in order to reach me. Genevieve and Halagrim will cut down any that make their way. This gives the Black Thorn and Derrick a free hand to shoot down any archers that come into view. If it so happens that a large number of Goblins come after me at once, that is the occasion for Lanatir to cast a Sleep spell.

Ghereg

Now the party goes up the trail, north, and then west. They kill a couple of Goblins. Immediately within view is a tower.

Inside the tower is an Ogre named Ghereg who's apparently having a massive headache. I could kill him, but that offers far less xp for it. Instead, I have my Druid, Cassandra, speak to him and tell him of a herbal remedy for his headache. He then leaves quietly, and the party gets 1200xp. Note that a Druid has to be the one to do the talking for this to work. If you don't have a Druid in your party, you can find a Druid named Arundel in Kuldahar itself who can explain the remedy to you, and then you can explain it to Ghereg for the xp reward.

Now the party leaves the tower, and goes west and then north a little.

Beetle Cave

Now I take the path exiting north, and run into a lot of Goblins. Note that that many of them are preoccupied with dead Beetles, so I simply hold position and let my archers take out theirs. Once the main mass snaps out of their preoccupation and converges on me, I switch over to melee weapons. Lanatir sets them up with a Sleep spell. After that, I gradually inch around in order to take out the Goblin Archers on the perimeter. I make my way east and to a cave entrance.

Within the Cave are a few Beetles, and a fight ensues. Once the Black Thorn takes a wound, I play it safe and have him and Derrick switch to missile fire at a distance.

Uligar

Now I go back east of the stockade. I cross the bridge, and go up the gangway. There is a Goblin Marshall who is bothered by voices in his head. I can't really do anything about this.

Just up ahead there is a mill. I set up a separate savegame before going inside.

Waiting inside for me are a few Orcs, along with their chief, Uligar. I cut straight to the chase and kill Uligar, checking to see what he has dropped. The possible items he may drop are:

The Wand is the item I want, not so much because I'm looking for a permanent item here, but because it is the one I can sell for the most gold. Fortunately, I got it on my first try, so I killed the rest of the Orcs and quick-saved. If I hadn't gotten the Wand, I would have reloaded my backed up save game.

Now I leave the Mill and take the trail leading east.

This brings me to Kuldahar and the start of Chapter 1.
