MAZE OF DREAD, LEVEL 2

Maze of Dread, Level 2

Ask Him of Oscon

I begin by winning looping around to the west wide and winning a fight against random monsters at 1N 2E. I afterwards loop around to the northeast corner, and win fights against random monsters at 20N 15E, 15N 13E and 19N 13E.

I backtrack and make my way to 3N 21E, where a voice tells me: "Ask him of Oscon, he who knows many things."

The Riddler Seeks a Word

The next sequence involves some looping around. I go east and win a fight against random monsters at 4N 0E. At 4N 3E is a clue that reads: "The riddler seeks a word, but he'll only understand it backwards." It is relevant to obtaining a powerful magic sword on this level.

I thereafter win fights against random monsters at 2N 2E, 4N 6E, 3N 6E, 0N 6E and 20N 6E.

Time is Short on the Snare

I win fight against random monsters at 1N 13E, 2N 15E, 6N 15E and 6N 13E.

At 4N 14E is a message that reads: "Time is short on the Snare ... take care!"

Seek the Zen Master, Friends!

Now I fight random monsters at 6N 6E, 11N 6E and 12N 10E.
At 5N 12E is a message that reads: "Seek the Zen Master, friends!"

The Thirst Brings

The next series of fights against random monsters requires me to sometimes loop back and forth across the eastern edge of the map. I finish them in a sequence of 10N 13E, 10N 15E, 11N 20E, 8N 20E, 8N 0E, 12N 0E, 14N 19E and 15N 19E.

At 12N 12E is a message that reads: "The thirst brings an even score of jaunts." The meaning will become apparent during the Snare.

Sword of Zar

First I win fights against random monsters in a sequence of 16N 10E, 18N 8E, 17N 9E, 17N 6E and 14N 8E.

Now I enter the nearby room that is shaped like a cross. At 14N 11E a voice tells me: "The Sword of Zar lies below." That is false.

At 14N 9E another voice tells me: "The Riddler's clues lie hidden on the entry level." It's those same clues that involve different colors.

At 15N 10E is the Riddler. He mentions several clues by name, and also asks me to name the false color. Note that he does not specifically mention red as a color. Remember the clues above, and how they mentioned several colors but not red? There's more. Remember the previous clue at 4N 3E that mentions the Riddler will only understand the word backwards? The correct answer is: "der".

Since I gave him the correct answer, and since he notes that I passed the Battle Test that involved all those statues in Dargoth's Tower, he rewards me with the Sword of Zar. The sword itself can inflict a lot of damage in the hands of a character that can attack multiple times like a Paladin or a Warrior. However, I have Gallard use it for the rest of the games. He can use it to insta-kill single targets to a range of 80 feet. His new setup becomes the Sword of Zar plus the Luckshield I've been saving for him (and which replaces the Deadlyrang as his offhand item).

The Graphnar Lord is Magic-Proof

Now I win fights against random monsters at 13N 6E, 14N 3E, 15N 2E, 16N 0E and 18N 2E.

At 21N 0E is a message that reads: "The Graphnar Lord is magic-proof."

Elevator to the 3rd Level

I loop around to the northeast corner, and win fights against random monsters at 17N 20E and 21N 20E.

I then loop around to the southeast corner to reach the Elevator at 1N 21E. I use it to reach the third level.
