GREY CRYPT, LEVEL 1

The Forest

To the Grey Crypt

I go to the Sage's Hut and pay him 120,000gp for his information on the Grey Crypt. He warns that nobody has ever come out of it alive, and that no magic spells will work within.

The entrance to the Grey Crypt is just a little north and east of Tangramayne. Every single square in the Grey Crypt is anti-magic. However, I use Wand Segment 5 to activate a Batchspell after entering, which will work in anti-magic zones.

Grey Crypt, Level 1

The Sphynx Asks a Riddle With Two Answers

I work my west eastwards, winning fights against random monsters at 2N 1E, 2N 2E, 1N 2E, 1N 4E, 3N 6E, 3N 8E, 3N 10E, 1N 8E, 1N 12, 0N 14E, 2N 15E, 3N 16E, 2N 18E, 1N 20E and 2N 20E.

A Magic Mouth at 4N 20E tells me: "Hear this, mortals: The sphynx asks a riddle with 2 answers, one which allows release through Death, and one which Wizely brings you closer to the Snare." The door behind me closes, for now.

Be Not Bold - It's Twice Foretold!

There's a few traps in this part of the level, which is an endless hallway that goes east-west. Trap Zap is not an option, so be careful and step around them whenever possible. I win fights against random monsters at 4N 17E, 6N 16E, 6N 21E, 6N 1E, 6N 5E, 4N 6E and 4N 1E.

I go to the teleporter at 5N 3E, which takes me to 13N 3E. I win fights against random monsters at 13N 19E, 12N 15E, 12N 9E and 14N 11E.

After that, I go one square east and through the door. I win fights against random monsters at 15N 11E, 16N 13E and 17N 12E. A message at 15N 14E reads: "Be not bold - it's twice foretold!"

Past Days of Wisdom's Early Reign

I win fights against random monsters at 17N 15E, 16N 15E, 16N 17E, 17N 19E, 16N 20E and 18N 21E.

I step north and into a dark-hallway filled with traps and Hit Point draining squares and Spell Point draining squares. I avoid the traps whenever I can, while killing random monsters at 19N 20E, 21N 19E, 19N 6E and 20N 10E.

A voice at 20N 15E recites a poem: "Past days of wisdom's early reign , past years of fire, wrath, and pain, a passage down you've yet to gain."

I make my back to 19N 21E and step south through the door to leave the dark hallway. I go the teleporter at 15N 21E, which takes me to 11N 21E.

Ask the Wise of DESTINY STONE

I am now in a hallway which leads to lengthy series of small interconnected rooms. They for the most part run east-west and back multiple times. I win fights against random monsters at 10N 1E, 10N 4E, 10N 7E, 10N 11E, 10N 16E, 10N 19E, 9N 21E, 9N 16E, 9N 12E, 9N 10E, 9N 7E, 8N 4E and 8N 3E.

A message at 8N 2E reads: "Ask the Wise of DESTINY STONE".

Sphynx

I win fight against random monsters in a sequence of 8N 9E, 8N 11E, 8N 14E, 8N 18E, 7N 21E and 7N 18E.

I back track until I make my way to 8N 12E. I go south through the door, and then kill random monsters at 7N 12E, 7N 7E and 7N 4E.

A Sphynx at 7N 1E states: "Two answers here will I accept; each is a creature of the Crypt. Name it."

Either answer is based on a random monster type that can be found in this level. Answering "Death Sword" will re-open the door at 4N 20E, which had closed behind me, so that I could leave the Crypt altogether if I wanted to.

I instead choose to answer "Wize One" in order to open the stairs to the second level.

I go east and win a fight against random monsters at 7N 14E. After that, I step south through the door to come back to the hallway with teleporters.

You Sell Your Steel Past Dawn and Drift

I go to the teleporter at 5N 3E, which takes me to 13N 3E. I make my way to 14N 11E and go north through the door.

I next win fights against random monsters at 16N 7E and 16N 4E. A voice at 18N 5E reads: "You sell your steel past dawn and drift, yet secret is the ancient gift to offer up a blessed lift."

Stairs to Level 2

Now I win fights against random monsters at 15N 4E, 16N 2E and 17N 2E. The stairs to the next level is at 18N 0E.
