FIRE LEAF FOREST

Sendai

I arrive at the north side of the Fire Leaf Forest. I go a little west and click on 'tab' to find a hidden cache. The cache has spell scrolls for Chromatic Orb and Cloudkill. I used to use the Cloudkill scroll for the upcoming battle against Sendai, but now I pack it for a battle where it will be even more useful.

Now I continue east somewhat, and then south. This will be a battle against Sendai, Alexander, and Delgold. I figure I've gone up a couple of levels, and with a little luck I can outlast the trio in a straight up fight without having to expend the Cloudkill scroll. Khalid naturally takes the lead forward to absorb the early missile fire. Unfortunately, my enemies made their saving throws against Imoen's spells so I have to go the distance for this one. The trio will use their Potions of Healing, but so will I. I make Sendai the first priority. Delgold is next. I initially had the entire party surround him, but then Alexander develops an annoying habit of always picking on Avastrian with his arrows. So I adjust my approach a little. I send Khalid along to run down Alexander. This forces Alexander to draw his melee weapon and/or retreat from Khalid. This is still a sound approach as Khalid is well-protected individually, and the rest of the party members can still gang up on Delgold. Once Delgold goes down, I then go all out for Alexander. A curious situation develops whereby only 2 party members can reach Alexander. I then had Jaheira and Kivan trade places, so that Jaheira can attack him with her dagger, and Kivan can reach over her with his Two-Handed Sword +1.

Alexander and Delgold each leave behind quite a few Arrows +1. Sendai herself leaves behind:

It is also around this time that Imoen finishes playing around with Tarnesh's spellbook, and creates Imoen's Artifact.

Albert and Rufie

Here is a fairly simple quest. I go west and then southwest around a bend in the trees. A little boy named Albert wants me to find his dog, Rufie. He also gives me a chew thing so that Rufie won't attack me on sight.

Rufie can be found towards the southeast corner of the area. I simply lead him back to Albert for an xp and a gemstone.

I conclude the video by touching the west edge of the area in order to reveal another area on the world map.

Vax and Zal

Now I travel southeast, and routinely kill off a group of Xvarts.

After this I tread a little more carefully around the southwest corner. The catch is that there's a pair of Bandits around here, but also a group of random monsters that will be very close to them. I would like to treat each of them as separate battles instead of having to fight both at once.

So I tread carefully until I bring the random monsters into view, which turns out to be a pack of Kobolds. Kobolds are easy enough, but I want to kill them without bringing the Bandit pair into view. So Khalid steps forward to absorb the missile fire, and kill any that come forward with his Scimitar +1. Kivan kills any Kobold archers with his bow. Now I rest up.

A little ahead east will be the bandit pair, Vax and Zal. Vax will make the claim that Zal is the fastest and deadliest dart thrower in the Sword Coast. Bragging aside Zal can back up that claim, at least against a low-level party. My strategy here was to have Kivan go into hiding, and then sneak up behind Zal. Kivan can't do extra backstab damage the way a Thief can, but the point is to be on top of Zal from the word go and force him to draw his halberd.

Once Kivan is in position, the rest of the party comes up and tells off Vax. Kivan immediately begins to attack Zal, and the rest of the party soon joins in. First Zal falls, and then Vax. Zal leaves behind several darts, as well as the Bracers of Archery (+2 THAC0 bonus for missile weapons). Kivan wears them for now, but Imoen will don them once she completes her dual-class training.

Larry, Darryl and Darryl

The video starts with me running into a group of Skeletons. Unlike other monsters Sleep has no effect on them, so I need to go the distance with them. A mix of both decent armor class and hit points should suffice to outlast them. After that it is mostly groups of Kobolds that I wipe out in routine fashion.

At one point I run into a rather weird trio, a Tasloi, Xvart, and Kobold, who call themselves Larry, Darryl, and Darryl. There's no point other than an amusing reference to the Bob Newhart show.

Now I head east and for the Nashkel Mines.
