TOMBS, LEVEL 3

Tombs, Level 3

Spinners

Most of the rooms to the east and west are identical to the one where I just entered this level through the stairs. They have doors on all four sides, and a spinner in the middle. For now I win the fights against random monsters at 16N 9E, 16N 6E, 16N 3E, 16N 11E, 16N 14E and 16N 17E.

The Old Shall Lead the Way

I go through the door south of the stairs, and enter a large dark room. I win fights against random monsters at 14N 9E, 14N 2E, 12N 1E, 9N 1E, 12N 4E and 10N 5E.

A voice at 13N 6E provides a clue about the first Snare: "The old shall lead the way."

I resume with winning fights against random monsters at 12N 9E and 14N 12E. I make my way out of the dark room and to 12N 12E.

Center

The video consists of me winning fights against random monsters at 9N 13E, 12N 13E, 12N 14E, 14N 15E, 14N 14E, 9N 15E, 6N 15E, 3N 11E, 1N 10E, 6N 10E and 7N 11E.

After that, I make my way back to the dark room and then back to the room with the stairs leading back up to the second level.

Pick Yer Poison

Now I begin to go through the extended network of small rooms on the north side of the level. I win fights against random monsters at 18N 9E, 20N 7E, 21N 7E, 21N 6E, 20N 5E, 20N 4E, 21N 4E, 21N 3E, 21N 2E, 20N 2E, 20N 1E and 21N 0E.

At 21N 1E is a message that reads: "Pick yer poison, boys."

Age Before All Others

Now I make my way back east, but also fighting random monsters at 19N 1E, 18N 1E, 18N 3E, 18N 4E and 18N 6E.

Another clue for the first Snare is at 20N 6E, which reads: "Age before all others, when time is short. For the last must be first."

I afterwards continue eastwards by fighting monsters at 18N 7E, 19N 7E, 19N 8E, 21N 9E, 21N 10E, 20N 10E, 20N 12E, 19N 11E and 19N 10E.

A Party of Sick People

Now I go eastward and fight random monsters at 20N 13E, 19N 13E, 18N 13 E, 18N 12E, 19N 14E, 18N 16E, 19N 15E, 19N 14E, 19N 17E, 21N 17E, 21N 18E, 21N 21E and 20N 21E.

I get another clue about the Snare after the last battle. It reads: "A party of sick people might escape where the healthy fail."

The Won Flame in Ancient Grip

Now I win fights against random monsters at 19N 20E, 18N 19E and 19N 18E.

At 18N 18E is a rhyme that reads: "The won flame in ancient grip might cause the cloudy one to slip ..."

Staff of Old

I backtrack a little to the north and west, winning fights against random monsters at 21N 16E, 20N 18E, 20N 16E, 21N 14E and 21N 12E. From there I continue north through another door and loop around to 0N 12E.

I go one square east and encounter an old man who asks: "The name of it is the staff of ..." The correct answer is "old". He then informs me of getting the answer right, and tells me to ask the sage of "Fanskar".

I go to the teleporter at 1N 14E, which takes me to 3N 14E.

Southwest

Now I win fights against random monsters near the southwest corner in a sequence of 0N 7E, 0N 4E, 1N 3E, 1N 1E, 3N 4E, 2N 6E, 3N 8E, 5N 5E, 5N 1E, 7N 1E and 5N 3E.

After that, I back track and win fights against random monsters at 3N 2E and 3N 1E.

East

I go west through the door to loop around to 3N 21E, where I have to fight random monsters. I continue battling random monsters in a sequence of 1N 20E, 1N 18E, 1N 17E, 1N 15E, 0N 15E, 2N 17E and 3N 15E.

Now I follow the long winding hallway on the east side of the level, fighting random monsters at 12N 18E along the way.

I stop myself short at 5N 21E. First, I dump a couple sets of Mithril Arrows in my inventory to make room for items that I'll need. Second, I use a charge from a Dayblade that I found along the way. Light cast from an item won't snuff out in the Snare, which is filled with anti-magic squares.

Snare #1

I step onto 4N 21E, which brings me to 10N 3E to start the first snare.

The first step is to go to the poison fountain at 9N 12, and have EVERYONE in the party drink from it so that they will all be Poisoned.

The next step is to attack and kill the Toxic Giant at 7N 10E. I get the Torch! in my inventory, which is necessary to solving the Snare.

The next step is to go to 11N 10E, and have the Old Warrior join the party. He replaced the Master Mage in my playthrough. What is crucial here is to reorder the party so that the Old Warrior is in slot #1, and have him equip the Torch!.

After that, I go back to 10N 3E. Lagoth Zanta informs me that I have successfully solved the Snare.

I conclude by going to 10N 9E, and going through the door to the west. I get Wand Segment 1 at 10N 8 E. I go west two more times, cast Scry Sight to determinate my location, and then cast Apport Arcane with coordinates -10 -6 2 to leave the Tombs.

Ephesus

77th Level

Roscoe's is right across from the Temple of Darkness, so I have him identify Wand Segment 1. It offers a +4 bonus To Hit from the off-hand, and can also cast Wizard Wall without limit. Not terribly useful, but it's obviously part of a larger whole.

I kick the Old Warrior out of the party and return to the Adventurer's Guild at 14N 8E on the map of Ephesus. I bring Zarathos back into the party, since I can do the next two or three Snares with a full party.

Now I head over to the Review Board at 12N 11E. Talia and Mordred each advance eight levels to reach their 25th levels as Archmages. Lord Stygar, Ariel, Cassandra and Gallard each advance three levels to reach their 77th levels of experience.

I head over to Garth's Shop at 10N 4E. I sell everything except the Dayblade I have with the most charges, the Master Key, and the Wand Segment 1. I've decided the Dayblade will be useful for when I need light during places with anti-magic squares, especially the Snares.

Now it's on to Fanskar's Castle.
