JOINING THE GREY WARDENS
The Joining
I survive the Joining ritual, but Daveth and Ser Jory do not. I get their equipment anyway. The Grey Warden character will get a bonus talent to choose after completing the joining.
The next part of the game is to participate in the War Council. Once this happens there will no longer be any opportunity to do business with the Quartermaster. Also, the Quartermaster has his stock replenished after I have finished business in the Korcari Wilds. I therefore grab the opportunity to again sell my excess items, and then load up on items like Deathroots, Elfroots, Deep Mushrooms, Toxins, Metal Shards, Health Poultices, Lyrium Dust, Lyrium Potions, and another Backpack.
War Council
Here we have a cutscene where the King, Teyrn Loghain, and Duncan are together in a war council. Aldarion and Alistair are given the mission to light the beacon at the top of the Tower of Ishal.
The Battle of Ostagar Begins
The video of course starts with the cutscene of the King's army and the Darkspawn horde joining battle.
Aldarion and Alistair then cross the gorge in an effort to reach the tower. It turns out that Darkspawn have overrun the Tower itself.
I now have to engage in a series of battles to reach the Tower, with the help of two other soldiers who temporarily join my party. Don't worry particularly much about the soldiers that appear with 'blue circles' about their feet. There really isn't any particular in-game consequence for using them as temporary meat shields in order to get the jump on the Darkspawn.
I typically let Alistair lead the rush ahead of the others, so that the Darkspawn will zero in on him as the initial target. This leaves Aldarion free to go to work with his spells. Aldarion very frequently selects the same Darkspawn that is being attacked by the warriors for spells like Arcane Bolt, Winter's Grasp, and Lightning Bolt.
The idea is to bring down individual Darkspawn as quickly as possible, enabling to party to make its way through one after the other in as rapid a succession as possible. Aldarion will only go in for a Cone of Cold when there's an optimum opportunity for it, i.e. when there are several Darkspawn in a line against the party's warriors. These themes suffice to win the battles, including the battle against the Hurlock Alpha
Now I have to enter the Tower of Ishal.
