GALLARD, M HUMAN HUNTER

Gallard

Starting Attributes: Strength 15 Dexterity 13 Constitution 18 Intelligence 6 Luck 11

The Critical Hit ability may not seem like a big deal during the first game when the Paladin and Warrior are mowing down monsters with enough damage. But the Hunter's value becomes obvious when the monsters in the second and especially third games pack a LOT of Hit Points. The Critical Hit ability allows the Hunter to take out a monster in one blow, irrespective of how many Hit Points the monster may have left. The higher the Hunter's Critical Hit skill, the more likely the Critical Hit will occur.

I play the Hunter as a front-line warrior during the first game, for two reasons. One, there aren't any weapons that I can use that provide ranged attacks without limit. Ranged weapons in the first game are limited to finite ammunition like arrows. On the other hand, the Hunter can, at least during the first game, achieve a very good AC comparable to the Paladin and Fighter. I therefore have him as the third-slot attacker.

I will transition to a different style during the second game. The Hunter, come the sequel, will have trouble with his AC keeping up with the Paladin and Warrior. And that can mean he becomes more and more vulnerable to himself getting attacked and hit hard by the monsters. At the same time, items like the Deadlyrang and Sword of Zar become available that he can use for ranged attacks without limit. It is during the sequels that I turn him into more of a long-range sniper who can land Critical Hits from afar and from the back rank.

I designed him as a warrior with an Assassin's Creed kind of appearance who will take over Tarmitia as the new God of War.

Inventory

Weapon: Diamond Dagger
Shield: Diamond Shield
Helm: Spirithelm
Armor: Adamant Plate
Misc. Item: Elf Cloak
Gloves: Gauntlets
Ring: Shield Ring
Boots: Speedboots

The Diamond Dagger doesn't inflict as much damage as other weapons, but that becomes meaningless when the Hunter uses it for Critical Hits. The Diamond Dagger provides a hefty 4 point bonus to AC that allows him to keep up with the Paladin and Warrior, at least during the first game. Another point is that his To Hit will not be on par with the Paladin and Warrior. The Diamond Dagger and Spirithelm both provide bonuses to address that. I also do a little transition before the transfer to the second game whereby he replaces his Diamond Shield with a Luckshield.
