Getting Here: Simply take a walk here from any other district within Athkatla.

The Graveyard District
|
|
"A place where many go to visit the fallen
and those they loved who are no longer with them. A peaceful place in Athkatla
where birds sing and flowers bloom during the day, but at night, as of late,
strange things have been happening and spotted within the Graveyard
District. Some whisper of Vampires and other Ghoulish beasts that walk
the paths and tombstones dotting the area. Bring some garlic and a few wooden
stakes just in case you happen to run into something that doesn't quite
seem... alive."
Graveyard District - Tombs |
|
"The dead rest in many places but it is the corpses of the rich that lay and can be found within their tombs, sometimes guarded
by spirits and wards to keep looters at bay. It is best not to disturb such resting places and if you do, best you have some protection against the traps
and beasts that can be found within."
Graveyard District - Tombs - Resting Tombs |
|
|
Resting Tomb
|
|
|
There are scattered tombs within the Graveyard District that one can enter and of course, loot
if they so wish and by doing so, you will find mixed items and treasure that you can stuff deep into your backpack. Of course, each tomb isn't available
just to be taken advantage of and you'll be introduced to Skeleton Warriors, a Mummy or two and Shadow Fiends that have been left behind to defend against
people such as yourself.
One tomb of course has a Crypt King within, who may give lower level parties some headaches during the battle but that's what
you get for trying to loot the dead. Explore the Graveyard District well and leave no tomb unexplored for there are someworth
while items that you will come across if you take the time to battle the guardians protecting them.
Resting Tomb
|
|
Although the Graveyard District is whispered to have Vampires lurking about, you will not come across
any if you visit the Graveyard District during the day as well as stay above ground rather than exploring the Lower Crypts.
Your exploration of the Graveyard District will have you encounter a few people, spirits and possibly
get yourself a few small quests to do while you are here and it is best to explore both during the day as well as during the night for different folk arrive
here at different times.
Resting Tomb
|
|
Traps within the tomb should be watched for as much as possible and are always the last resort that
all those who lay within count on so their own treasures are not looted by those like yourselves. Having taken care of the threat
of the guardians found within, be it Skeletal Warriors, a Mummy or two or a Shadow Fiend may put people off guard, only to die by
opening a coffin or wooden chest.
Always make sure you double check for traps before your itchy fingers go removing the lids from such
hiding places because if you die, it is the dead who will have the last laugh.
There are six tombs in total.
The Lower Crypts are dark, damp and cold, littered with such beasts as Spiders,
Sword Spiders, Phase Spiders, Wraith Spiders and Ettercaps staggered through the central part of the crypts. Also found within the
central part of the Lower Crypts is the Spider's Lair where Pai'na can be found, ordering her spiders around
their daily chores.
|
Outside of Spider Lair
|
|
Inside of Spider Lair
|
|
Within the Spider Lair, circular in design, will be found layers upon layers of spider web that
has been laid out on the ground which Pai'na and her spiders move about and one may find a few fireballs here very helpful
to cause some radius damage to the advancing groups of spiders. Battle well here for there are worthwhile items that can be
found within.

Scattered through the Lower
Crypts are smaller areas that lead back up to the outside of the Graveyard
District which will take you to various locations found above. Two
passages also continue deeper into the Lower Crypts
that being into the Vampire Crypts and to the
Southern Crypts, the latter you will be able to
access for to gain entry into the Vampire Crypt
you will have to be in Chapter 3.

Crypt of the Dead
|
|
You'd best be on your mark as you enter this death room of foul undead, who will not be present at your
first step into this very rich, golden floored room. The Lower Crypts were nothing compared to the battles you
will face down in these depths and if you are here for Korgan and his quest for the
BOOK OF KAZA, I wish you
well in the battles to come. May Tymora shine on thee while you are here.
As safe as this very room may look, do not let its tranquil nature fool you into running
forward with eyes wide for treasure, fortune and fame because once you take a few steps forward, the guardians who watch
this chamber will come forth and surround your party as best as they can.
Skeleton Warriors, Zombies, Shadows, Shadow Fiends, Wraiths, Ghasts, Wights, a Mummy or two and even a Vampire will be looking
forward to feasting on your warm flesh and tearing it apart from your very bones, while you are still alive may I add! Keep
your party formation tight to protect your weaker members and let the fighters handle most of the frontal assaults that will
come at each and everyone of you. If you have the ability to turn undead, do so for if Tymora is looking down on thee, luck
may find its way to you and have a few of the lesser undead turn and flee. If this is the case, leave them be and continue to
concentrate on those undead that remain in the battle for those that move away will not harm you as long as your cleric continues
to show them his or her holy symbol.
The Vampire on the other hand may prove tough for low level parties as it will be more than happy
to drain 3 levels from any member it touches and even having one of your tougher front line fighters Dire Charmed by the Vampire's
gaze may cause even more problems for an inexperienced party. Negative Plane Protection would be very useful to those front line
fighters and if you can cast this, I suggest you do to save yourself the hassle of watching one of your fighters become
weaker due to such a powerful level drain effect.
Keeping the party in a tight formation
will not only help a character or two when they are in trouble but also
allow clerics, paladins or party members who can cast healing spells give
a healing touch to those who need it. Also passing around Healing Potions
during the midst of combat will also be a lot easier the closer your members
are. Most importantly are the traps situated on the very face of the floor
design, the eyes and mouth are the pressure points that would cause you
even more troubles if you had your party running around, which could only
get their own escape blocked off by a slew of undead drooling for their
warm flesh. Staying close to the exit in this tight formation will also
allow for a quick retreat if you so happen to need on, with your weaker
characters backs being protected by your front line fighters who can take
the blows of such a retreat, allowing you to heal, regroup and return
for the final battle.
Search the room well and remember those
traps. Although undead do not carry much in terms of important items for
they have no need to, your rewards certainly lay deeper in these Southern
Crypts so don't be too disappointed as of yet.
If you happen to have a low level party, do not be discouraged by this description and the battle because it
is a great chance for you and the party to get to know the abilities, strengths and weakness of each member and if you come through this
alive and use everything you can to overcome it, you'll receive experience in tactical positions that will only help you for your future
journey.
Some well known defensive spells that could easily turn the tide to your advantage would be Bless, Defensive Harmony,
Chant and Protection from Evil.
Finding your way through the secret passage will introduce you to a few more undead bands that await
your arrival to stop you from going any deeper in your search for fortune or even for the BOOK OF KAZA
if you happen to be exploring these depths for Korgan. Either way, you will still have to face these foul
beasts so battle well and hard through the passages beyond.
The Standing Stone Crypt
|
|
One of these very passages will lead you to this dead-end Standing Stone Crypt which houses some very
rewarding items if you just take the time to battle your way here and also keep an eye out for the treasure that lines some of the
passages walls, found in vases and such for these items could very well help you in the battles to come.
The crypt itself is small but as mentioned above, holds many items for you to take along with you so
search everything you can before moving on to the last crypt found in the Southern Crypts.
Tomb of Kaza
|
|
Finally, your exploration will lead you to the deepest crypt found within the Southern Crypts and that is the
Tomb of Kaza, where, if you happen to be on Korgan's quest for the BOOK OF KAZA
is where your journey will come to an end...that is for now. Listen well to Korgan if he is with you as he flips out, he will also speak of where the party may have
to head next in their search.
In the meantime, best for you to take care of the Skeleton Warriors that guard the Tomb of Kaza and once they have been taken care of,
search the area and then be on your way.
Gaining Entrance: You must be in Chapter
3 and either be given entry by joining Bodhi or by meeting Haz and
his Golem who will open the double doors for you from the Shadow Thieves.
Please take note the part of this solution is currently for going
along with the Shadow Thieves and I will update this the next time
through as I go through again by joining Bodhi.
|
Meeting Chamber Crypt Entrance
|
|
The very smell of evil can be picked up by everyone as you make your way through the double door that
Haz had his Golem open for the party and as you step forth, you will be introduced to floating evil known as Grimwarders and Grimwarder
Archers who will seek out the party in hopes of destroying them. Remove this threat as they are not very strong at all and you should have
no problems moving forward into the chambers that lay beyond.
Stepping forward into the next room, the party will be greeted by a Fledgling Vampire and some Greater Ghouls
but the most important character found here would be Lassal, who will invite you to the lower depths of the Vampire
Crypt so remember when you're finished with all the chambers found on this level, to follow him down to the next.
Meeting Chamber
|
|
A very large meeting table takes up most of the room here, which is very well laid out and illuminated. The floor
looks like sunrays that span out from the glowing, amber coloured table with its burning candles and all.
Now for the battle here, it would be best to toss Negative Plane Protection on one or two of your strongest
party members to deal with the Fledgling Vampire. This chamber is empty but does have five exits that lead from it, one of them a secret
passage that leads deeper into the Vampire Crypt.
Exploring the further chambers from the Meeting Chamber will not only find you in some
heated battles against Vampires but also have you find their Resting Chamber, which after battle they turn into moving
mists and return to their coffins to regenerate. It is here that one can find their resting bodies and finish them off
by running a wooden stake through their heart.
Resting Chamber
|
|
Of course, this Resting Chamber is being guarded by a very quick and powerful Clay Golem who will want
to keep all intruders out for the Vampires who use this place to regenerate and sleep during the daylight hours. There are three crypts
found here and three Vampires will return to this Resting Chamber. Gellal, Durst and Lassal all return here, so you will need 3 wooden
stakes to finish them off once and for all!
It is also in the Resting Chamber that,
when you finish off Lassal with a wooden stake, you will encounter Bodhi
for the first time in battle, so be ready for this as well as she comes
at the party with full force, her touch drains levels and her eyes charm
many. Keep thy blade before you and your magic ready, especially Negative
Plane Protection to keep members of the party getting level drained by
Bodhi.
The battle is more of a feel out for Bodhi,
who will not stay long enough for the party to finish her off as there
are many things currently in motion that she must return to attend to.
Durst's Chamber
|
|
Pillows adorn the floor here and lay at the very base of a pool of blood which Durst had just been
bathing in before the party burst in to disturb her. She will not be very pleased with your entry and shall have her Greater Ghoul
pets move in to attack as she uses her gaze in hopes to charm one or more party members. Battle well and be weary of her level drain
which could very well be the end of you if you do not have Negative Plane Protection cast for this moment. Remember, once you have bested
her, she is not yet dead and will retreat to the Resting Chamber to regenerate her wounds, so put a wooden stake through her heart and
finish her off once and for all!
Search well the room and take a chance in bathing in the bloody pool for you just might find something that
will come in handy against these foul undead beasts found within the Vampire Crypt.
Draining Chamber
|
|
Across the way, on the right side of the Meeting Chamber is the Draining Chamber, where many who are
caught by the Vampires are placed on sharp spikes so their blood can drain from their very bodies into the large pool gathered
here. Vampires feast here when they have been unable to make a live catch and this supply of blood keeps them alive until they are
able to feast on warm blood once again.
You shall come across Tanova, a very powerful Vampire whose spells may cause you a fair bit of trouble
along with her ability to drain levels and charm members of your party, is by far the hardest battle within the Vampire Crypt.
Her Greater Ghouls will try and keep the party at bay while she prepares her defensive spells and begins to unleash her offensive spells at charm abilities
at unsuspecting party members.
Past her, the room will be empty on your first visit, save for some traps set within the floor that will come out and spear
any who happen to walk on them, so do look around before you go stepping around. Your second visit though will have you return to face Lassal, who will
be waiting for you here once you have completed exploring the lower level of the Vampire Crypt but do remember, when you do face
him and finally drop him, that his mist form is making its way back to the Resting Chamber. Follow him and end his life by slamming a wooden stake through
his heart at his resting place!
Bathing Chamber
|
|
Making your way down the flight of stairs to the lower level will bring you face to face with Greater
Ghouls, Fledgling Vampires, Grimwarders, Grimwarder Archers and Lassal, the latter will greet you and once again send you on a wild
goose chase back to the upper level where you are to meet him in the Draining Chamber. Of course, you'll have to go through the
undead before you will meet him, so battle through all the Greater Ghouls, Fledgling Vampires and Grimwarders until the threat is no
more.
Search the rooms for there is some very well made equipment that some of your members may find useful.
Bedchamber
|
|
Two fires burn here lighting this small Bedchamber, a soft bed rests in one of the corners
of the room and a dresser stands not too far away.
Finally, your leave can be done by heading out through the stairs that lead from this very small room
and if you are having trouble finding wooden stakes, this room holds one that can be used to put a vampire to its final rest if need
be. Besides the stairs that lead back up to the Graveyard District, this room is otherwise empty.
Sylvus Moonbow killed a few Vampires here!

KORGAN AND THE BOOK OF KAZA QUEST |
If you've picked up Korgan then at some point of your journey you will find yourself here in the Graveyard District searching
for the BOOK OF KAZA which can be found in the Southern Crypts below.
Of course, this will not be the end of this particular quest as it will take you to the Slums District where your quest will be completed and come to a final
close but not before it takes you to the Temple District.
Completing this part of the quest in the Graveyard District will give you new information to continue the quest in other districts.
The spirit of Wellyn will ask a simple task from you and that is to help him get this LITTLE BEAR
which can be found by returning to the Slums District and making a visit to the Copper Coronet where Llynis can be found in one of the bedrooms.
Completion of this quest will earn the party 650xp for killing Llynis and 15,500xp for returning the LITTLE BEAR
to Wellyn.
TIRDIR'S
BURIED ALIVE QUEST |
Seems like someone doesn't really care for Tirdir, who was buried alive here
in the Graveyard District by some men and if you
save him, he will ask that you find those men who did this to him. He will
give you a piece of red cloth that may help you find who those people were.
Freeing Tirdir will give the party 6,500xp, a piece of red cloth and information about the Bridge District where your search
may begin and lead to those who had done this to him.
Meeting Kamir in his time of need may benefit the party if you take the time
to listen to his tale and give him some assistance in providing him with
a new child to take care of. This young girl can be acquired by a priest
who can be found within the Graveyard District and
who is currently watching the young girl and keeping her safe.
Offer to have the girl be taken care of by Kamir and receive 12,250xp.
ARAN
LINVAIL'S BODHI QUEST |
Come Chapter 3, you will be asked by Aran Linvail (if you went and paid the
Shadow Thieves the gold), to come to the Graveyard District
and search out the lower crypts for Bodhi's Lair. Gaining access to her
lair will be assisted by Haz and his Golem, who will open the magically
locked doors and allow you passage beyond.
Once this quest is completed and you have learned everything you can,
return to speak with Aran Linvail which will then whisk you away to Chapter
4.

Three times did I come to the Graveyard District and two of those times did I have a different mix of party
members within my group. At the first and second arrival I had Korgan as my second fighter, while the last time
I went here I had switched Korgan for Keldorn. The reason for this was while I
was playing the game, Aerie said if Korgan wasn't gone in a day, she would be so
I made the choice to ask Korgan to leave.
I went then to pick up Keldorn as I had watched Viconia die at the stake,
ran my sword through Anomen and since Haer'Dalis lied to me not once, but twice,
he fell on my blade too. Keldorn was the next best choice for me and has been a great addition to the party.
My party during Graveyard District for the first two visits, consisted of the following:
01 |
Grub |
Barbarian |
Half Orc |
