ANOMEN AND KELDORN

License to Cast Magic

Now I head over to the Government District, whereupon multiple pathways open up all at once. Keldorn wants to see his wife and daughters. Madeen wants me to see a Cowled Wizard named Tolgerias.

But my immediate priority is to buy a license to practice magic for 5,000gp, which will allow me to cast spells without being harassed by the Cowled Wizards. This will be important for some upcoming fights, but also a potentially dangerous fight once I return to Athkatla after rescuing Imoen.

Viconia

Here is where I rescue Viconia from the Fanatics of Beshaba who want to burn her at the stake. This fight remains easy enough, even after SCS tweaks their AI to have them use their potions. The good party refuses her company.

*Evil* Jan Jansen and Viconia

When Asteroth first arrives in the Government District, he grabs the opportunity to recruit two new party members.

Starting at 2:20 of the video he covers for Jan Jansen against a customs officer named Trax, and then takes up Jan on his offer to join the party.

He then also rescues Viconia from the Fanatics. Unlike Avastrian, Asteroth eagerly welcomes Viconia into his party.

Maria

Now the party visits Keldorn's estate. But his wife, Maria, is apparently guilty of at least emotional infidelity, and their relationship is in trouble due to Keldorn's prolonged absences while in service to the Order. The conversation ends with Keldorn suggesting seeing Willem in the Mithrest Inn in the Promenade.

Moira

Now I head over to the Delryn estate, at the east edge of the District. Cor Delryn demands that Anomen avenge the death of his sister, Moira, by killing Cor's rival, Saerk Farrahd.

This one is a bit of a roleplaying 22. If I help Anomen kill Saerk, the Order will cast out Anomen and his alignment will change to Chaotic Neutral. He and Keldorn will eventually come to blows. And it will turn out that Saerk was innocent.

But since I want to keep both Anomen and Keldorn, I go the other way. I talk Anomen out of killing Saerk. In this instance, for any of you girls who may be romancing Anomen, Saerk will turn out to be the killer after all. But in any event doing things this way will make sure Anomen gets his Knighthood and becomes Lawful Good.

Suna Seni

Now I leave the Government District on the way to the Promenade, only I get attacked by a group of Slavers led by Suna Seni. Her group includes a Mage and a Cleric. Keldorn starts off with Dispel Magic, and aims it a good deal left so that it brings down the Mage's protections but not the protections of his own party members. Anomen takes the offensive initiative with the party-friendly Holy Smite. Minsc starts off with Armor of Faith. Yoshimo retreats a bit, so that he's out of the thick of it and can start using arrows instead.

Avastrian casts a Slow spell to reduce the fighting ability of the enemies. Jaheira aims her Insect Plague at the Cleric, which spreads to the Mage. This leaves them both unable to cast spells. This is one of the greatest advantages of Keldorn's Dispel Magic ability, that it has an almost instant release time. It will remove the enemies' spell protections before other party members have finished casting their spells. With proper timing, my party can both rip down enemy spell protections with Keldorn's Dispel Magic and inflict nasty conditions with other spells within the same combat round.

Once everything is in place, the battle is over before it even starts. My party members hack down everybody one by one. Additional nuances are Anomen holding one of the Slavers in place with a Hold Person spell, and Keldorn exposing the invisible Mage with his True Seeing ability.

The party racks up the loot, including a couple Potions of Giant Strength, and several spell scrolls. Suna Seni leaves behind Arbane's Sword (+2 Shortsword, can Haste the wielder for 12 seconds once per day, immunity to Hold Person). I then head over to the Promenade.

Sir Willem of Thorpe

Now I head over to the Promenade. I sell off some treasure at Ribald's to free up some inventory space, but avoid getting 15,000+ gp for the time being.

I then head over to the Mithrest Inn, where Sir William encourages Keldorn to reconcile with Maria. We then head back to Keldorn's estate, and choose the dialogue option that involves 'serving until we save Imoen' so that Keldorn remains in the party.

Now I want to take down the Slave Lords so that I can obtain a powerful katana for Avastrian.
