RAPAX RIFT

Rapax Rift

To the Rapax Rift

I enter the Rift. Ryu casts Set Portal. Rothgar casts Return to Portal to return to the portal in Arnika. I bring Vi Domina back into the party, and Ryu casts Retun to Portal so that the party returns to the Rapax Rift.

I on ahead a bit and kill off a Rapax Patrol, along with a couple of Blistering Scorchers that I lead out of the tunnel to the right.

Rafe

Now I travel the tunnel to my left, at the end of which is a cutscene involving the Lava Lord.

I then move ahead and easily dispense with 2 Rapax Corpses.

There is also a cell holding a Rapax Prisoner, with a combination that is needed to open his gate. It's a 3-3-3 combination, so it should be pretty quick to get out of the way with but 27 possibilities.

The Rapax's Prisoner is named Rafe. To make it short, he wants you to bring him the Staff of Ash to win his freedom, and in return he'll give you information on how to reach Al-Sedexus.

Also behind him is the Prisoner's Chain (+1 to hit, +3 initiative, 5-10 damage, 5% knock unconscious), which is the final ingredient I'll need for the Vampire Chain. It also makes for a decent interim weapon for Rothgar in the meantime.

Piece of Obsidian

Now I go back to where I came from, and start travelling along the tunnel lead east. I run into Fire Ants and kill them off.

I then continue east a little, north a little, and when face west. I find a Piece of Obsidian, which is an ingredient for the Mirror Armor.

Rapax Jail

Now I continue north up the rampway, and slaughter a horde that includes Rapax Berserkers, Rapax Archers and Rapax Warlocks. The latter can cast Mage spells. But I don't have trouble once I get Elemental Shield and Soul Shield up.

I then run into a Rapax Jail. The levers won't open the doors, but they'll lower the gangways to the cells.

Hades Harp

Now I go west and across the suspension breach. I easily kill a couple of Rapax Initiates who are on the other side.

I then proceed north, and then west. On the other side of the door is another Rapax initiate. Once she's dead I grab a Hades Harp that Errol could use to replicate the Cerebral Hemorhage spell.

Flamequencher Wand

Now the party travels to other room directly across to the east. Errol unlocks the door, and I kill a Rapax Priestess and 2 more Rapax Initiates. The key item here is a Flamequencher wand, which is a quest item that I can use to reach the Lava Lord.

Sanctum Key

Now I go to the two rooms to the north. I kill a few Initiates in the west room, and grab some loot there.

The east room has 3 Priestesses that I quickly kill. In this room will be the Sanctum Key, a quest item that I'll need very soon.

Rapax Prisoners

Now I go to the north end of the hallway, and hit the levers. I return to the jail, except none of the prisoners want to leave. There is plenty of loot to be collected here though.

Support Beams

Now I go back west across the bridge, and descend south down the hillside pathway. I end up killing a few more Rapax with brute force.

I go east, kill a few more Rapax, and then collect some arrows.

Note that at the point labelled 'Beams' on the map, the wall will collapse. You can't cross this without taking severe (and likely fatal) damage from the lava. But no worries, simply search around with your mouse clicker until it changes to the 'hand' icon. This means that you can click on the support beams, and bring them down. This allows you to cross safely.

Bath House

I detour briefly, and go west to the Bath House, where I have a routine fight against 2 Veterans and 2 Initiates. Other than that, I grab potions and such.

Rapax Undead

There are a series of cells just east of the point marked 'Beams'. Each cell contains Rapax Corpses and/or Rapax Revenants.

One of the cells has a Book of Hexing, which Chun-Li uses to inscribe the Hex spell.

Rapax Teleporters

Now the party goes east and then north over the lava tunnel that I collapsed the beams over. The door to the right can't be opened until I get the key for it.

Fight a group of Rapax Priestesses and Rapax Archers as I follow the hallway. I continue and fight another two groups of Rapax Priestesses.

Both Rothgar and Ryu advance to their 23rd levels. Rothgar takes Falling Stars, which gives him an offensive option that uses Earth Mana. Ryu takes Blizzard, which scores cold damage and blindness in a cone. That's an option that may come in handy against the Rapax.

There are two rooms on the left side of what remains of the hallway. Each has several Rapax Initiates led by a Rapax Priestess. I have little trouble taking care of either. Chun-Li inscribes a Book of Blinding she finds in one of the rooms.

At the very end of the hallway are 2 teleporters.

Inner Sanctum

Now I take the north teleporter at #1, and end up on #1a on the map. I then have to kill 2 Priestesses.

I continue to the point labelled 'SD' on the map, which is a door that is opened by the Sanctum Key.

I continue northwards. Note that there will be 2 scrawled panels on your left and right. If you continue on without doing anything else, you'll get bathed (and killed by) lava in the pit. So, click on the panel on the right side and disarm the trap. Click on the right panel again, and now the lava is disabled. You'll be able to walk across safely.

Continue on, and you'll have to fight the High Priestess and several of her minions. The High Priestess can cast Instant Death and other spells, so I cast Elemental Shield and Soul Shield to play it safe. In the same room, and you have to make a point of looking carefully for it, is a Beckoning Stone. This is a quest item that I'll use very soon.

Rift Basin

Now I leave the Inner Sanctum, and head through the east door.

Now I follow the pathway until I run into several Rapax Warlocks and a few Rapax Veterans. The Warlocks are arcane spellcasters, so Chun-Li casts Elemental Shield allowing the party to cut them down one by one.

I reaches a basin with a glass cage in the middle.

Lava Lord

Notice the key hole on the glass cage? This is where I use the Flamequencher Wand. The Lava Lord now appears, and summons 4 Fire Sprites to help him. Since the Fire Sprites are low level, and having water spells as their relative weakness, I am easily able to take them out of the battle with Freeze All (via the Arresting Aria) or Freeze Flesh from my Bishop. This allows my warriors to concentrate on the Lava Lord exclusively, and then kill off the Sprites once he dies.

Staff of Ash

The cage itself has the Rift Key and the Staff Ash, which are both quest items that I will use very soon.

Now I go back the way I came, and go through the teleporter at 1a.

I continue through the red carpet hallway where I had fought all the Priestesses and Initiates.

The Rift Key opens the door just a little east of the Beams.

I next go to the nearby gates, and use the levers to get myself through.

Now I give the Staff of Ash to Rafe. Everybody gets 100,000xp for it. He then hints using the Beckoning Stone at a Gate.

Vi Domina takes Death Wish on her 23rd level-up.

To the Beckoning Gate

I continue on and end up fighting Rapax Samurai and Rapax Warmages in the Jail. Elemental Shield makes the win assured. A Tsunami or two from Chun-Li to soften them doesn't hurt either.

I make my way back to the teleporters at the end of the red carpet hallway. But there's some monsters who've spawned again in the basin. So I first go back through the teleporter at #1 to #1a, go down the pathway and defeat the Rapax Samurai and Blistering Scorchers for the xp. I then go back through the teleporter at #1a to return to #1.

Now I go through the teleporter at #2 to #2a. A large gate stands before me.

El Dorado

I use the Beckoning Stone on the hole in the middle, and this summons El Dorado. El Dorado casts a lot of spells, but I arrive higher-level so I'm not worried. He also has all of his resistances to a level of at least 150%. His numerous physical attacks don't do anything special though, so I simply wear him down physically.

I then travel further inside, and I briefly encounter the Demon Goddess of the Rapax, Al-Sedexus, who indicates she may be willing to accept a party member as a Templar.

I travel up the pathway leading north, and kill a couple of Rapax Archers.

The way is open to the Rapax Courtyard.

Rapax Courtyard

Rapax Courtyard

This is a fairly straightforward area, simply kill the many Rapax that stand between my party and entering the Castle. Keep in mind that they are very spread out, so catching them with offensive spells isn't really workable. I have to do it the hard way.

I proceed to the Rapax Castle – Main Level.
