Hey @Beren. I am currently following your walkthrough for ToEE. This is my first time playing the game. So far I must say the pace of the game is a little infuriating but your walkthrough has been excellent.

One minor errata: In the party guide, https://sorcerers.net/Games/ToEE/Walkthrough/PartyGuide/Alliria.php, for druid you list Spell Focus: Summoning at 3rd level. This should be Spell Focus: Conjuration.

A couple of notes: St. Cuthbert, I was able to intimidate that guy on the lower floor and never paid him 10gp to meet the canon (what can I say, I have a dislike for religious institutions ;)).

Also, I was able to pickpocket the dagger +1 off Furnok with some save scumming. No matter how much I tried, there was no way to pickpocket the Ring of Invisibility. Also, pickpocket does not work at all on Fruella (this is all just FYI).

    ----------------

A more pressing matter though. I am following your guide with very few deviations -- I've wandered a bit where my game style varies from yours or my 'philosophy' for the rpg varies from yours. I don't have the modpack installed. Otherwise I've been fairly religious.

Now is my time to multiclass my rogue into a wizard. Since she is meant to be a utility wizard, I'm thinking of specializing, to give her extra spell slots. I dare say I won't lose out on anything useful (I think) because the school/s I am looking to miss out on should not be involved in crafting items? My choices are:

Diviner: requires me to drop only 1 school, and I'm thinking of dropping Necromancy.
Evoker: since I will be taking Magic Missile and Fireball, why not? In this case I would drop Conjuration and Necromancy. Instead of Mage Armor I would take Identify. And I'll use Mirror Image (and later Elven Chain) in case I ever decide to drop her in as a decoy.

Which option would you recommend? Or maybe some other variation? A transmuter perhaps? If you insist on straight-up wizard instead then what would be the rationale?
Eagerly awaiting reply before finalizing the multiclass. I'm still in Hommlet, about to go for Terjon's pendant. I've created a poll but a descriptive response would be much appreciated. Thanks!

As an aside, you've mentioned Color Spray for your wizard (one of my go-to spells in other D&D) but it's not listed in the manual. I desperately hope it's something they overlooked. It is listed in spell.mes. I hope it turns out to be an Illusion spell and not Necromancy!

Iirc correctly I went generalist Wizard because I didn't want to lose any schools. But if you must choose, I'd go with Diviner.

I'll look into the other things when I get a chance.

Thanks a bunch. Dropping Necromancy is the right choice?

A point to note, this is the first game where I feel comfortable dropping Necromancy... in all other games (the ones I play) I would consider it an essential for my arcane casters because of Horrid Wilting -- and that would be the one and only spell because of which I would end up creating generalists. But in ToEE you don't get levels beyond 10! So with PCs I always end up with generalist wizards (so far). Also, crafting is either not available or not useful at all in BioWare games.

Your explanation of creating a pure utility wizard was so convincing too. Good insights. Thanks

Also, can you tell me exactly which areas the St. Cuthbert and the Dagger +1 occur in so I can note them up?

Having to pay 10gp to meet the canon (or Terjon) appears in multiple places. I haven't got beyond the first six links under HOMMLET (top link) but iirc I've seen it four times already on four different pages.

Furnok and Dagger +1 are mentioned on https://sorcerers.net/Games/ToEE/Walkthrough/Hommlet/WelcomeWench.php

By the way, are you seeing anything like this "he’ll" instead of "he'll"?

I'm seeing it as a smart quote -- he will (closing single quote) in the first instance -- which is correct -- and a regular quote in the second. Usually struggles happen when you try to use a closing single quote at the beginning -- like the '90s.

Although I'm not sure what your question pertains to... if you're referring to your wt then I haven't been paying attention to quotation marks.

Ok, just made changes to the Alliria, StCuthbert's Church and the Wench pages. If you like, check them and see if you agree with the editions.

The quotes issue is global and will need to be fixed manually (it's due to the new site layout also). The incorrect/missing display is a consequence of copy/pasting from Word that I mentioned in the Workshop thread.

Fixing this will require mass replacing all the invalid Word characters will standard ones. Once I get started on this with the other pages, I'll make a list of what needs to be replaced in the walkthroughs.

I doubt it will be an issue with Beren's walkthroughs -- even if he creates content in Word, he puts it into DW for this site and DW should convert any smart quotes into " or &dquot; (I haven't used DW for many years now, this is from old memory).

I suspect only very old content might have issues. Will go through the IWD, IWD2 stuff again to check, since that is among the oldest content on the site.

It doesn't convert smart quotes by default, check the thread in Workshop, I explained the issue there. And it's not just quotes, it's also em dashes, ellipses etc.

I did a mass replace yesterday to at least fix the quote marks, seems to have worked as far as I can tell.

    Errata: https://sorcerers.net/Games/ToEE/Walkthrough/MoatHouse/MoatHLevel1.php
    https://sorcerers.net/Games/ToEE/Walkthrough/MoatHouse/MoatHLevel1Map.php

Need to swap the text of 7 and 8?... on my install, 7 leads me to L2, 8 leads me outside

Edit: actually just swapping the text won't work... there are 2 markers for 8 on the image. If you still have the source image, you'll need to swap the marker for 7 with the 8 on the right.

(These are not "please fix now" ... you can review my comments as and when time permits.)

Further edit: Now I'm really confused: I went outside the secret door, came back in, and NOW the doors work as indicated on your map! Really, I tested the doors twice before posting this, but now they seem to have swapped positions in the game, making your map and markers correct! Gosh this game is buggy.
