  1. BatariYour party starts near the shipwreck after the storm. A large number of Batari, a species of Goblins specific to southern parts of the Forgotten Realms game world, are nearby. They have apparently taken the captain and first mate hostage. Volo, your (in)famous fellow passenger, offers to try and parley with the Batari. Suffice to say, it won't go anywhere and it's only a matter of time before the Batari attack. So you find whatever you can from the nearby shrubs and piles of debris.

  2. At these locations, you'll find shrubs. If the character clicking on the bush has a decent Craft Alchemy skill, you can make a Potion of Cure Light Wounds.

  3. At this pile of debris, you can find a Wand of Missiles. You can also use the sails to make Healing Kits.

  4. At this pile of debris, you can extract a couple of Ship Planks that can be used as clubs. If one of your characters has a decent Survival skill, he or she can also come up with a makeshift spear.

  5. You need to hurry with extracting these items though, because it is only a matter of time before the nearby Batari will begin attacking in 3 distinct waves, each wave following an unsuccessful effort at negotiation on the part of Volo. In my experience, there are at least two distinct methods that can make these combats go rather smoothly. One is to have an arcane spellcaster that can cast several instances of the Sleep spell, which will be great for temporarily knocking out several of the low level Batari. Another method is to build a fighter that has the Cleave feat, or even Great Cleave if you can manage it, so that he or she can quickly take out as many of the low hit-point Batari as possible with each swing. If you can combine both strategies, all the better. In any event, don't spare any resources since this is a prolonged encounter for characters that do not have that many hit points themselves.

The first wave is led by a Barbarian named Ghzermag the Wild. Try and nullify the minor Batari and then concentrate your efforts on taking him out as quickly as possible. He will leave behind a Hide Armor and a Greataxe. Have your tank equip the Greataxe as soon as possible, since this helps enhance the Cleaving strategy.

The next wave is led by an archer named Clawkeeper Kzheemoc. He leaves behind a few Arrows +3 and Arrows.

The last wave is led by a Druid named Shoudul of the Skulls.

Once the last wave is dealt with, a patrol from the state of Samarach arrives, and are immediately suspicious of you. They’ll decide to take you back to their city of Samargol. But first, you’ll be allowed a last opportunity to scavenge the area for anything useful. Once you’re finished, speak to one of the patrol again and you’re then escorted to the Open Palm Bazaar of Samargol.
