THE GOVERNMENT DISTRICT

This affluent district is Athkatla's center of administration and home to some of the finest families in Amn.

  1. Here are the district exits. You normally arrive in the upper left corner of the map.

  2. If you come here at night, you may be stopped by a few guards here who warn you not to roam the streets at night due to the ongoing guild war.

  3. Here is the Vulova Estate. You may have to visit it in Chapter 3 if you decide to ally yourself with Bodhi.

  4. The Temple of Waukeen sells the usual Temple services and a number of potions and scrolls. Click here for shop inventory.

  5. Here is the Roenall Estate which belongs to Isaea Roenall, Nalia's former betrothed. You will have to come here if Nalia is in your party and you are doing the Nalia Gets Abducted quest. Otherwise you can't enter.

  6. Here you will find Viconia about to be burned at the stake for no other reason than she is a Drow Elf. To save her, click the stake she is tied to, then prepare for battle against the three Fanatics. Once they are dead, Viconia offers to join the party.

If you don't save Viconia the first time you pass, she will be burned alive and is of course no longer available.

If you save Viconia but don't let her join the party, she goes to 18 in the Graveyard District.

  7. Here is the Council of Six Building. You will want to come here for a number of purposes.

Outside the building you will meet Madeen, who wants you to go inside and speak to Tolgerias. This starts the Find Valygar quest.

Also, if you're doing the Jaheira Gets Cursed quest, this is where you may meet the Mages who cast the curse on Jaheira. They want to offer you a deal.

  8. Here is Delon, whom you will want to speak to in order to get the Deaths in the Umar Hills quest.

  9. Here is the Prison. You may have to come here to free Jan Jansen if you don't lie to the guards and keep him out of trouble.

  10. Here you will find Jan Jansen peddling his merchandise. A guard named Trax intervenes and accuses Jan of selling illegal inventions. If you refuse to answer Trax's questions, he will attack you with the aid of some more Guards and Cowled Wizard Enforcers. If you tell Trax that Jan tried to sell you a flasher, Jan will go to the Prison and you can bail him out there. The party gains 100 GP and no experience for this path. Furthermore, if you want to free Jan from prison later, it will cost you at least 600 GP.

If you say that you were just talking about the weather, Trax leaves in a bad mood, the party gains 8,500 XP, and Jan offers to join the party. If you turn him down, or if you accept his offer and later drop him, Jan goes to the Jansen Home in the Slums.

  11. Here is the Firecam Estate which is Keldorn's home. You will need to come here if you have Keldorn in your party.

  12. Here is the Jysstev Estate. You will need to come here in connection with the Jan Jansen Returns Home quest and the Sir Sarles quest.

  13. Here is the Deril Estate. You will need to come here in connection with Cernd's NPC quest.

  14. Here is the Delryn Estate, home of Anomen's father. You need to come here in connection with the Anomen is Summoned Home quest if Anomen is in your party.

  15. Near this place you will be stopped by a beggar. A guard asks you if the man was begging of you. How you handle the situation is purely up to you; however some of the NPCs may step in to save the man. For example, Viconia of all people may intercede to ask if the law hasn't got better things to do than harass beggars – like, for example, seeing to it that innocent women aren't burned at the stake for no reason! ;-)

  16. Near this place will be the "lady" Oriana selling her "services" – but not to anybody! If you speak to her with both Valygar and Viconia in the party, you run the risk of the two of them leaving the party and fighting to death.
