[IMG] Tell us about the hardest creature you have to kill and how did you manage to do it.

For me, until now, it is the beholder elder, with his small green beholder escort (dont remember their names).

I was able to kill them ONLY because my main caracter (dwark beserker) had the spell deflection cloak. I send him alone. And when all the beholder where attacking him, I bring my npc's with ranged weapons. So the beholder received damage from their own spell reflected on my cloak, from my 2 batlle axes(one in each hand) and from my ranged weapons users. I could not bring my others fighters (Minsc and Jaehira) near because of the spell the beholder throws. Like skin to stone, or stuff like that. So I left them far behind, until the fight was over.

    Great fight!

    If I'm not mistaken....
I always have trouble with those damn gauths and beholders. The problem is that I'm a hand to hand sort of guy and spell casting comes second. With these creatures AC doesn't mean squat!

I've found that if there are a bunch of these creatures grouped together, a carefully placed Chaos spell causes them to blunder around quite a bit.

maybe its just me, but noone as killed more of my party than a illithid (mind flayer) in the game you dont have to worry about killing most enemies very fast, but you do have to worry about killing a mind flayer before he can attack more than 1-2 times

I agree, illithids are extremely tough, esp. if you face them in the underdark. I don't think many people do try to take them on, but they are definately one of the tougher enemies

I agree. Mind Flayer where real pain in the ***. Need a lot of magic protection.

The can wipe out your party before you realized who you are fighting.

EternalPaladin: I disagree; I found facing the Illithids in the Underdark easier than anywhere else. Main reason: Full Plate +5

My character and Minsc mopped up the entire Mind Flayer city in the underdark by themselves, and only needed one casting of Chaotic Commands each...

the chaotic commands spell does work great. but when they do that one attack... they only need to his you one more time and your dead and no matter what spells you have on you it doesnt matter! cuz they make you brain dead and you die! bauahaha

IronEagle: I believe what you mean is the Intelligence Drain. The way it works (I think) is that with one hit they can start the Intelligence Drain (and the icon shows up on your portrait) if you don't kill the offending Mind Flayer before your intelligence goes to 0 then you die...

That's why Full Plate +5 was so great; they simply couldn't hit me! :)

The single hit death is when your character has been stunned by a psionic blast first... which Chaotic Commands protects against.

Well, everything in the game is relative. Illithid are easy if you have a greenstone amulet, chaotic commands, or the shield of harmony. Beholders are easy if you have the Robe of Mirroring. And just about anything else is easy if, as someone else said before, you are well equiped.

IMO, my hardest battle was the beholder dungeon without the Robe of Mirroring. Too many of the buggers and I had to resort to using i think about a total of 16 hasted mountain bear mercenaries.

Second to that, I would have to say is the Twisted Rune battle. In the end, I only lost Jaheira. The only trouble was, she didn't DIE, she was petrified, then shattered by a fireball. Too bad she was holding the key to Aran Linvail's dungeon, and I was essentially stuck had it not been for shadowkeeper.

[IMG] Still in chapter 2 but fought all of the badies you've mentioned before (the flayers, dragons, beholders and of course Kangaxx, which was very easy with a good strategy) and in conclusion the hardest battle till now was the Twisted Rune. Restarted it 4 or 5 times, but in the very end of the battle someone ever got petrified/disintegrated/leveldrained. But the other 2 crew members smashed the T.R.-inhabitants REAL hard. Only thing to mention further that this one was an expensive battle, for I used many potions in lack of proper equipment.

Hmm, Twisted Rune was not THAT hard, I thought...Maybe I just had some luck? Succeeded first try. My most difficult enemy is definitly the mindflayer...my barbarian has int 2 or 3... Beholders are indeed easy with robe of mirr. and impossible without...
And for the dragons...I first fought Shadow, cost me 4 tries. Then Firkraag...yeah, i whipped his ass HARD! First try. And Blackie was easy, exept for the irritating entangle...

[IMG] Try killing Drizzt's and his party with out lost a single member of your party. Atleast Drizzt's party drink healing potions. I think all the parties you fight should be has good has Dritt's party to make the game more of a challenge.

[IMG] I didn't have any trouble with the Beholder lair. I actually beat it with my Paladin only! But I do have the bonus cd, and one of the merchants sells the shield of Balduran which reflects all Beholder rays back at the monster. So it was easy.

I don't think it would have been without that shield though...

So far, my most challenging fight was with Firkraag. It was a pretty tough battle for me. I didn't use any of the cloud/area effect spells to fight him. I just summoned a lot o' critters, tried to lower/breach his magic resistance, and then send in Bel and Minsc to hammer (or sword actually) away at him. I lost my mage in that fight! I had him resurrected, but I was bitter!

That shield seriously lowers the challenge in BG2 against one of the most awesome and feared beasts of Faerun. Beholders are something else, but with that shield by your side it pretty much kills that fear.

Like I said before and will say again. BG2 is a power gamer, maunty haul game with way too many magical items.

    Syl...

I definitely agree! I also downloaded that "Dark Side of the Sword Coast" adaption from Team BG...Which left me with the same impression. Some of the changes they made were cool, but I found some really powerful items that were added early in the game that really threw the balance off! I only played it through chapter 2 or 3, then uninstalled it.
