Well As the topic said. Me I'd say my very first, 5 years ago, back at time we didn't use Dungeon and Dragon but a weird without name system that play only with d6. Their was no class, no skill, no feat you receive your skill by advancing an any of the four main area, Magic, Warriorship, Stealth, and Work (more or less the profession skill) Anyway After 3 year and a half we made to great jump to D&D. These are the stats of my char 3E, I will write his entire adventuring history (long since he begin at age 16 and he is age 38)

Note that those stats are from my memories...

    Cyrus Grandecours
    Fighter 3 - Paladin 14 (17)
    Alignment: Lawfull Good
    AC:26
    Str: 20 (15 natural)
    Dex: 18 (18 natural)
    Con: 14 (12 natural)
    Int: 12 (11 natural)
    Wis: 14 (14 natural)
    Cha: 18 (13 natural)
    Hit dice: 3d10+6 + 14d10+28 (123)
    Attack: +26/+21/+16/+11
Possesion: +4 battle axe of the holy king, +3 chain maill of mithril, +3 Medium shield of Oubad (The God of law, chilvary, and honor in our world) Ring of the warrior (+2 STR), Amulet of Divine Might (+3 STR) helmet of ridig thinking (+1 INT) Belt of giant fortitude (+2 CON) Wand of fire and Heat (fire wall wand) Boots of quick reflex (+4 reflex) and a cloak of Thousand light (+2 CHA)
    Fortitude: + 11
    Reflex: + 7
    Will: + 8
Turn undead: 14/a day (see Bio to know why)
    Spell per day: Can't recall...

BIO (this can be looooonnnggg) again this is from memories

He began his day of adventuring as the squire of a kinght, after 4 year his master has die of illness. So Now a first level Fighter he decide to go an a great adventure with his best friend Clovis (also a Level one Fighter). After Clovis and Cyrus drove back a horde of orc and goblin from a litle village. Now they are both level 3, Their Country (Acieromania A-cee-ro-ma-nia) was on a great war against Pascolo the evil sea raider. So they both go on the Army to help in the war, that's their they meet Merlin, an Invoker with whom they defeated Pascolo after a war of 2 years. Acieromania was victorious. Clovis and Cyrus went on a quest to find unknow land and great treasure. After some time we find a desert Island. While Clovis made his own country their, Cyrus was call by the brother of the Knight whom he serve as a squire. The Illness who killed his brother was created by a group of Mage known as the Circle of the Skull. So His mission was to stop them from killing more people, since after his master was killed sereval other died too. It took him 1 year and a half to find the Circle of the skull Tower. When He finally reached the Final room of the Circel of the Skull's Tower they was a killed by an Blue cloaked man one of their follower, That's where he find that the one who kill all their follow Man and All those people was Actually Merlin the invoker whom he help in the Pascolo war. Until this day they were foe. He barelly made it back alive and when he had the oportunity to kill Merlin he teleport himself away. After that, Cyrus made it back to his friend Clovis Island. When he tell his story to Clovis, he also Swear to hunt this dreadfull and evil wizard. The most Holy order of Acieromania, an Order of Paladin, made home in Clovicia (Clovis's Island) so Cyrus Became the First Knight of Clovicia and was granted the title of Paladin. In the shadow of everyone Merlin conquered a Island from himself and after 2 years he declare himself an indepedent Country.

Note: The event after are unclear in my memory so I'll just give quick summary of each and they are not necesary in chronological order.

Cyrus save a Young Silver dragon and he earned the dragon respect and they became allie

Cyrus searched for 3 year an artifact of a once great Holy king who created a great axe but after he became a Lich and since the axe was fuelled with holy energy it drove the lich to madness

Cyrus saved with the silver dragon, a Clan of dwarf from a G size earth elemental that where he got his Mitrhil chain maill

With the help of almost 75 fellow Paladin drove back to the lower plane a extremlly powerfull Cambion.

He made a trip to Mont Celestial to gain wisdom, and he was the first in the last thousand year to made it back

Litle by Litle he made it to the head of the Order and now he's one of the eight dirigant.

After another trip to Mont Celestia and their he got a shield from his God in person, not only the shield his +3 it aslo double the amount of Turn undead by day.

He made a direct assault to Merlin's Castel and after a 45 minute battle, when to two were almost death Merlin Turned to stone Cyrus. Fortunatly the Silver Dragon use his magic to retransform in his normal from, but again Merlin was victorious.

With the Help of Clovicia and sereval other country Acieromania won another war in the name of Goodness, and Cyrus was one of the General.

That's about that folk, now after 22 years of Adventuring Cyrus is now calm in the Most Holy Order of Acieromania, but not for long... :p

    So what's YOUR character?

Well, I have no character to boast, really. The one for whom I was looking for a kit is my second one - and well, he's automatically my favourite, but I don't think people would like to read about a first level character.

I would have a question about yours: why are you wearing a chainmail if your DEX is 18? Does mithril chainmail not limit dexterity bonus?

And that's a great paladin, truly epic... What's more it somehow reflects the idea of paladin as prestige class - 3 levels of fighter is roleplaying contrary to 4 levels taken for weapon specialisation ;)

My favourite was my Dwarven Fighter from 2ed. Not much to say about him other than he gave me the best roleplaing experiences ever.

    I'm just mentioning his stats:

    Str: 9
    Dex: 13
    Con: 10
    Wis: 8
    Int: 6
    Cha: 11

Not much like a dwarf really :D

I wear Chain maill only because it was a gift from a dwarven clan chief (yeah original cough*Drizzt*Cough) Back then I didn't even know about All those feat, what level to chooce to truly become a Killing machine, you know Fighter4/ Whatever X. Since we have change gamming system, I just Give him 3 level of Fighter because before a specific event I wasn't really a Paladin.

I usually dungeon master, but I once had a player that was going to be a drow necromancer with a great sword, and I keep trying to get someone to be a fat tree-hugging druid, literally obese for their race.

My fav. character was Durlag Thunderhammer. A Neutral Good, Dwarven Cleric of Moradin (domain: Mysticism, Protection)6/Templar 4. But I lost the sheet...

He was too damn good. IIRC, he had STR 16, DEX 12, CON 16, INT 12, WIS 18, CHA 16 (I count the bonus from the items too, cloak of charisma +2, gauntlets of ogre power, etc). Again IIRC, his saving throws were FORT 18, REF 13, WILL 20.
Items: Spinned Shield, Warhammer +1, Holy Heavy Crossbow +1, Robe of Useful Things(two 10 ft. poles, three ladders, a rope, a window, a door, a dog and a donkey), Cloak of Charisma +2, Gauntlets of Ogre Strength, Helm of Comprehension, Full Plate Mail +1, Ioun Stone, Amulet of Natural Armor +2, all the necessary stuff an adventurer needs(backpack, bedroll, waterskin etc and the deitie's ssilver symbol, healing kit and what a cleric needs)

    Attack bonus(warhammer) +12, (crossbow) +7
    AC: 21 I think.

He was too damn good! But... I lost the sheet

    to Dungeon_Master:

I see your paladin is wearing: Ring of the warrior (+2 STR) and Amulet of Divine Might (+3 STR). But if i remember, ability bonuses do not stack, e.g. wearing Ring of the warrior is wasting the "ring position" (because it's bonus does not count).

Or has it another role playing value/background ?

As I reviewed your paladin's strength (natural/overall) I see that both of these bonuses were applied. According to 3e on ability bonuses:
    • same bonus types do not stack (one group: inherent bonuses from wishes, permanent effects, ...; second group: normal bonuses gained from items)
    • all applied bonuses to one ability can be maximal +5 (inherent + normal)
For you it could work, if one of your items would give an inherent bonus - should be mentioned in items description. Otherwise the strength of your pally would be only 18, not 20.

Or am I wrong ? Please correct me - we play PnP games this way. Maybe we missed something ...

P.S. I don't want to bother on your pally - looks nice, has cool background ... - I only want to clear thing and correct ours or yours 3e explanation on ability bonuses ...

My favorite characters aren't D&D but are part of my nation on Nationstates. These been Sinrë and Lithien.
Sinrë is a one time assassin who also lead Arani's armies during the Endless Regrets/Arani war. When the leader of Arani died he assumed leadership of the nation with the full backing of the metaconcert and the populance.
A week after he assumed the throne one of the metaconcert, Annilon, betrayed him and usurped the throne. After a short battle Sinrë and those of the metaconcert that remained loyal to him were forced to flee the city. His cousing Lithien escaped with them.
The escaped into the tunnels (keep in mind that this entire nation is in a modern Underdark) and eventually to the nation of SithRose. In the time it took for them to get there Lithien had two meetings with the goddess Eilistraee who gifted her with a magical flute, picalo, and shortsword.
After their stay in SithRose they came back to Arani and led the insurrection, taking a city and making that their base. There wasn't much opposition from Annilon's forces.
A short time ago one of the metaconcert was betrayed and murdered by a spec. ops team from another nation because there was a demon trying to kill him, and thus, them.
And the story so far has ended at that. I won't give any stats because I have no idea what they would be. These characters weren't made for D&D.

@Quicho: As I have said, When I got the majorities of those item we weren't playing D&D but that weird d6 system, and we did the D&D conversion we just took our character the best we we could do it in true 3E. The only explanation: We didn't know that rules back then since we've bought the D&D manuals only 2-3 days ago and even after 2 years we just didn't realize. Anyway I don't really care since I'm not playing with him anymore! too high in level, too many item too powerfull. Also he's LG I prefer by far CN...

Thx to point that anyway, it may make him a (little) less powerfull.

I usually try to take characters that best match what my friends are taking in D&D (though class wise I generally prefer to take rangers.) So I can't really say my character was my favorite ever, it was more the way the whole group worked out. See in 2nd edition we had this peasant-hero paladin, a completely isane and constantly drunk dwarf fighter, a gnome theif-illusionist bufoon and me as an Amazon bow-weilding wizardress and later on we came across a friendly Ogre cleric who joined us. And if that wasnn't an extremely odd combination to begin with, in just our second level we came across a magical, sentient +5 avenger scythe (which is what our paladin used as a weapon.)

In my Dad's world (he was DMing) there are evil cleric-sorcerers who get their magic from sacrificing people to their God (a bit like Grolims to Torak in the Belgariad.) And this scythe had it out to get every single Mag (as they were called) ever to exist. Every time even just one Mag was within a mile of us, the scythe would teleport the paladin away and we'd have to go rushing in to find him and half of the time, he would already have killed the Mag by the time we got there and the scythe would be happily playing Queen's Another One Bites the Dust. lol It was so much fun... At only 3rd level we ended up taking out a tenth level Ogre Necromancer (Mag) and his entire army. Those were good times. And then I also came across a baby psuedodragon and took her on as my familiar so you can imagine how strange we looked whenever we walked into town. And the dwarf always went to get drunk and since he had constantly died and been resurrected he was always talking about the 3rd and 4th times he'd died.

So that was my favorite adventuring group/characters. lol I could go into loads more stories but they'd probably take a book to fill up. Tragic thing is, around the time we reached 7th and 8th levels 3rd edition came out and we all eager to try that so the characters are still somewhere walking around with a pet green dragon and somewhere out there is a man all in black with a very magical scythe calling himself Death. :D You don't get much more fun than that.

Seriously, Anauroch is live, Yatar soon, both are Zhent friendly. In Daggerdale, Zhents are more or less killed on sight though ;)

Well, my very first D&D character for a very badly run, but rather amusing pnp game many years ago was Lance the Fighter. Heavy armor, sword with shield, extremely stereotypical grunt. Never said more than three words together and preferred to let the wizard and cleric do the talking. (In those days, elves, halfings and dwarves were classes, not races.)Played him until that group broke up.

The next was Vantoss, a ranger who died within two levels due to bad dice rolls. Sigh.

Then there was Albueron the mageslayer, adapted into 3rd Edition from the BG2 kit we all know and love. Unfortunately, he tried to slay Elminster in a badly run FR campaign by a DM that was extremely biased against Fighters and is now referred to in the past tense. Still, thanks to a rare shot of luck and a good critical hit, Albueron took out Alustriel and had her corpse raped in the middle of Silverymoon by his Half-Orc barbarian comrade. :D

Cleave works very well on unarmored 1st level commoners by the way. :D

    Next comes my favorite two:

Lancress Stryfe, an evil fighter I created for BG2. Played through as a vanilla fighter once without any kits and then as a dual-classed fighter/cleric with the mod that allowed priests to use swords.

His concept changed a little in pnp. He became a tiefling fighter/rogue that progressed into an assassin and later took Blackguard levels. The paladin mashing was fun, until my DM had enough and got a host of Solars and the Chosen of Mystra(yes, he loves them) to ambush him. Incidentally, the same player that fought beside Albueron as the half-orc barbarian( now a half-orc fighter) suffered the same fate as well.

Why can't DMs tolerate evil PCs?
Still, I racked up enough paladin and goodly cleric kills to make any archdevil proud.

Last but not least by far is the Human Kensai known as Shura, my namesake. At first I thought to adapt the BG2 kit into 3rd edition but then I simply progressed as a multi-classed fighter/monk until he qualified to become a Weapon Master from oriental adventures. Did not get to play this character a lot, though I really liked him.

I know this topic is about ONE favorite character, but I simply could not resist the chance to reminisce in amusing times gone by. Ah well.

well, starting killing off paladins and clerics all over the place is bound to get someone on your neck. Wouldn't blame the DM for not tolerating evil, as that would result in a thunderbolt from the sky trashing you to bits ;)

BTW Math, playing a paladin on ALFA?

[IMG] Considering that he APPROVED of my character's neutral evil alignment right at the start and promised our group a neutral/evil campaign set in a world NOT Forgotten Realms, one would have thought your character would be safe from Mystra's Chosen and TPK due to my group's evil actions. Divine and holy bounty hunters and vengeance seekers on our tail yes, but within the CR we can handle. I seriously despise DMs that refuse to use the CR rules in the DMG.

He simply got pissed that my group managed to outwit and eventually defeat a drow wizard (chaotic good)who was a lot more powerful than the group. The drow wizard played the part of the sagelike character that sent PCs on missions. When I got the detect good ability, we wondered what the hell a good character was doing with a bunch of scoundrels like us. After some discussion, we decided that the drow was setting us up for some treachery and after a long and hard struggle with much intrigue and ROLEPLAYING, we managed to defeat a level 35 drow wizard with four level 12 characters. Of course, we had to swing his elven children by the heels into the wall and do the customary ravish/kill of his moon elf wife.

That DM is biased towards wizards, drow and chaotic good. He promised but never delivered an evil campaign. He punished us regularly for playing In-character. Overall, he sucked. And when he suddenly announced that 500 Solars burst into the tavern my group was drinking in and 60 empowered maximized quickened fireballs were dropped onto us by every single one of Mystra's Chosen before the angels closed on us with their vorpal swords, we simply left the table in disgust. Why let our characters be evil when you wanted a heroic campaign in the first place?

He was simply out to TPK us.

Besides, I've always found that paladins and good clerics simply need to die whenever you find them.

My favourite? I got a few:

The first was a Ghostwise Halfling cleric of Vecna in a short non-FR campaign that we played in school just for fun a day when we all skipped out from class. After destroying a whole village with my comrades(And they didn't really want to, I tricked them good.) we went to the capital city in the region. When we came there two of my comrades were mugged by the leaders of the chaotic good thieves guild(I know, I know. Normally, the leaders don't do such small acts but this was an exception, we were famous.)

I frankly didn't care and went to a tavern, the female in the team went out whoring, and the last four PC's went ouy to kill those guys. I knew telepathy(sp?) and listened to every thing that happened. The female came back with 50 new GP and I tell her everything that happened.

Soon the fight begun. My comrades had attacked the thief guild and actually seemed to win, but this the DM didn't tolerate. This was the capital city after all so he send 10 guards to arrest my friends.

The first died, the second went after the corpse of one of the leaders to pick up his gold and was arrested, the third and the fourth fighted against the newly arrived guards. They were soon captured as well. The third managed to escape and went for the leaders corpses to pick up his goldbag and the other to get his well rewarded cash and was captured once again. The fourth also managed to escape but ran for our dead comrade and took his corpse and belongings to me for raising.

We all had great fun that day, you should see our escape report from jail. :D

Another one was a lawful evil Drow fighter wielding a two bladed sword in a non-FR short campaign in school, just like the fourth, but this time the party was out for Drow killing in the Underdark. They were sent to kill me and my legion of 57 other drow fighters.

The first met a paladin NPC, controlled by our DM, and he joined up with them. After a couple of fights the palading fell and his body magically dissapeared. The group thought it was a divine champion of sorts but it was just me that teleported his corpse to my fortress.

Later, in the final fight against me and 15 other Drow, they met the paladin once again. But this time something was wrong, he was a blackguard. But this wasn't the only strange thing. Every combat round he would roll a dice to see which team he would help that round(Rather schitzofrenic(sp?) to me) to add to the flavour. After a long, outdrawn battle the whole party was down with less than ten HP each when the blackguard threw out an innate icestorm spell and killed all but me, five Drow, and the barbarian and the fighter of the party. The party killed two of my Drow but was later killed by me in one single round, using my two-bladed sword.

The lesson we all learned from this? EVIL ALWAYS WINS!!

lmao Shura! I'm not with evil characters in general, but that DM must have sucked :D sorry dude. I totally agree with you, don't run an evil campaign if you dont want it to. (I did once, but my problem was the pc's killing each other, ah well.. that's life).

My favorite character goes back to a halfling with a rather large chip on his shoulder. He always seems to end up getting tossed around by his "friends" in any party he joins. This is intolerable to him.

In order to even the odds, he always carries at least one potion of giant growth. He will not hesitate to use it while being held over-head by some lout with more brawn than brains. :)

He has been a thief and a fighter/thief in various incarnations.
