Hey, Turandil! You should join the U.S.! As a Swede, you could be the poorest state in the union! Congrats!

    Your backward evil brother,

    Shralpishness

    [Edited to add:]

P.S.: If you're still of the obnoxious variety who thinks crime will go down if guns are outlawed, it might interest you to read that the UK's crime rate has skyrocketed to #1 among developed nations since it passed the most restrictive gun laws in town.

I was watching Robin Williams on HBO last night and he said "Canada is like a loft apartment over a really great party."

Shralp, I don't think your evil, iam sure your a good guy. I just don't like american politics, but everyone have his own opinion right. About sweden being the poorest state, your wrong, counting BNP per capita, and income and stuff like that does not give an esact picture of the welfare of the people of the nation. We swedes are known to have a country with few poor and few very rich inhabitans, and the people are almost those with the best standards in the world, although we are much behind you in militaristic research and things like that.
Capitalism is great for the industry, but in my opinion socialism is much greater for the people.

The appaling situation in England might have something more to do with the fact that there are about 2 policemen in the whole country who get payed about a thruppence a year :heh:

However, :yot: the article provides an interesting and unexpected explanation for the reduction in levels of crime in the US:
I am interested in this. Do you have any ideas where I could find more info on such a program in the US?

"The women, ranging in age from 30 to 90, used a traditional and powerful shaming gesture to maintain control over the Escravos facility — they threatened to remove their own clothing."

    Hmmmmmmmmm.

It's one thing if a 30 year old woman is naked. It's another thing if a 90 year old woman is naked.

Obviously, I leave the room when the HoW intro and end movies play...

I read this one article in the paper a while back where a mob of women stormed the police station (somewhere in Africa; I get the countries mixed up. I think it was Nigeria). The deal was their husbands were too drunk to have sex with them, so they demanded either the cops have sex with them, or the cops arrest all their husbands.

Never did find out how that one turned out. African women are tough.

Shralp, yes we are street crime capital of Europe. This is because of a shortage of police officers. But, while big bad America has many policemen, which keeps kids vandalism down, the amount of guns in your country is appauling. WE have next to no gun crimes in the UK which is a hell of alot better than a few smashed windows. At least i know that i can walk nto a bank without getting shot, can you?... I'm telling you, America is an ALOT rougher place to live than Britain. I'd absoloutley hate it if i was an American and would get the hell out of that, burger scoffing, war fighting, trigger happy, hell hole as soon as possible.

Ah but instead of gun shootings we have sword fights in England!

One good thing about england is BT, no actually that's pretty crap to.

I know! We are the only place to have an NHS!

Anyway Scotland and England are not the same, I still count England as one country, the rest of the UK is completely different

I don't get why Americans are so wierd, I mean they fet all worried if their children can't talk by the age of eight months, I mean COME ON! And America has the highest peer pressure apparently.

I loved the interview a British reporter did with him when he first became president:

Reporter: Can you name all the states?
    Bush: Yes
    Reporter: What are they?
Bush: Uh, ask me another time
Reporter: Can you name your head General
    Bush: yes
    Reporter: What's his name?
    Bush: General
Reporter: Can you name your own personal assistant?
    Bush: Well...can you?
Reporter: Name some important world figures
Bush: Well there's Tony blair, and ur...

And it litteraly goes on like this!

And people wonder why I did not vote for that idiot. I cannot wait until the next election to cast my vote against him again.

I have never worried about walking down the street in my city. I have never been involved in, or witness to, a gunfight. The only time I ever dealt with guns was at sales and when I shot the rattler that was about to kill my cat. So America is not the pandemic gun brandishing place the rest of the world seems to think we are. Yes, guns are legal, but that does not mean that every person here owns one and uses it at the drop of a hat. In reality, only a small portion of the population owns guns, and a majority of those are used for hunting.
Granted, I do not think EVERY type of gun should be legal here, and I do think many people misinterperate the Constitution. But that's a whole different topic.

"WE have next to no gun crimes in the UK"

Yeah, I know. Your 13 year olds don't make the news like ours do.

There's a couple of other factors in there too.

    1. Population
    2. Geographical location (island vs. continent)
    3. Cultural differences (read: immigration)

Yes, they are small differences. But even the smallest grain of rice can tip the scale...

    Uh, yeah, Z.

That interview is a FAKE. Yeesh. Some people's kids.

(Oh, and gun crimes are going up in the UK too now that you've disarmed the victims.)
