I've got a laptop which I plan to take with me back to India after my term ends. However, I'm worried that being exposed to X-Ray radiation can mess up my laptop when they scan it.

Is this justified? Or is it perfectly safe to have my electronics scanned with X-Rays?

They usually have two kinds of scanners. The small ones that you see near the security checks, and the big ones that you sometimes see. The bigger one is the one you should worry about. They have warning signs that the scanner can mes sever things up...including camera film for example.

Just take the computer with you to your seat and you shouldn't have to worry. Just be ready to prove that it's a real computer to security...which all you'll need to do is boot it up. :rolling:

I've always found that putting my laptop in Standby mode before I get to the airport helps to speed things up if I'm asked to turn it on during the security check. And always make sure your background is not set to something embarrassing (imagine my chagrin when I forgot to change my Viconia in the buff wallpaper :hahaerr: ).
Never ever check in your laptop with the rest of your luggage.
