Wouldn't movie X be much better/funnier if X happened?

sounds like my mom woulda fit right in with your crowd ;)

As to being transmuted into something, it would be too much of a risk considering the orcs and such would have tried to take everything out. And the Nazgul were linked to each other through the ring so I doubt looking like one of them would have fooled any of the Nine :)

I don't remember them really explaining why Gandalf wasn't frequently using magic in the films. There were two reasons why he didn't - (1) using magic would be detectable by Sauron and Saruman and (2) he was sent to Middle Earth to help guide the people towards solving the world's problems - not solve them himself.

Now back on topic, on Sunday I saw a preview for a film called (if I remember correctly) Flight of the Pheonix about a plane that crashes in the desert and the passengers have to build a new plane out of the wreckage of the old one.

The preview ends with the new plane running off the edge of a cliff in an attempt to take-off. Obviously the plane will in fact be able to fly and the characters will get home on it but my instant reaction was "Wouldn't it be cool if the plane didn't fly and the entire cast got wiped out?"

The fact that the cast appears to be incredibly annoying throughout the preview probably had something to do with that but it would certainly be an unexpected plot twist.
