Wired as posted today Top ten technology breakthroughs

Personally my favourite is number 3, USB 3.0 with its 4.8 gigabits / sec transfer rate, that's fast :whoa: :jawdrop:

I remember in the distant past, the year 1999, when we got our first computer with a whooping 6 GO Hard drive, now ten years later they tell me I could download that entire drive in, what? 2 seconds? Amazing.

There are many new technologies not listed there that may impact more than those listed. I do believe USB 3.0 will be the next biggest thing since USB 2.0.

For me flash memory. HDD is at a standstill. sure more space, some even spin faster but solid state disks are nice. Might get one for windows.

My top: 3 from their list:

#1 - USB 3.0...yeah, that 4.8Gbps is going to be sweet...and the backwards compatibility is the cherry on top.

#2 - The Memristor...or memory transistor. I'm an electronics engineering student, so new technology that proves theory is cool to me. That, and the fact that memristor could improve computing speeds by leaps and bounds. :D

#3 - Video-Capable SLRs...Finally, the pro equipment has added novice level features...and in HD! :D Nikons still suck though. :p

I was referring to technology advancement in medicine and warfare. These two areas are often serective due to their nature but usually provides us the most benefit in the long run.

Warfare huh? How about the Ripsaw UGV or the BEAR humanoid robot. Saw an episode on the Military channel about the development of these two technologies. Or how about an exoskeleton desigend by Raytheon, right here in Salt Lake City, Utah! Cool stuff.
