I'm just getting good with XP, I'm not going to switch until I have to. I still run 98SE on my old PC, and probably always will. I have been unable to get Magic the Gathering to even load on XP and I love to play the old game.

I didn't switch to XP until SP2.2 was out.

@HB: Always glad to help :D
The quotation marks were in there for a reason: those are (almost) exact quotes!

Yea, that's what they are thinking at the uni too. A pretty good solution, except that the comps always have XP ready and since reboot is such a hassle...

Hhhmmm I'll probably stick to XP as well, you know I kept 3.1 untill what? 1999? Then I've switched to win98SE untill well 2003 when I got this compy and XP. Mmmm I liked the old 3.1 the desktop was cool.

BTA's worst nightmare comes true :)

Vista has been delayed... yet AGAIN!

They've not been very direct about it, but if you do the math that's a delay of a few months.

    This is getting ridiculous.

The article doesen't even states why - M$ is getting sued by Symantec for some patent infringements. Basically, M$ wanted to include features similar to some Symantec software, (cannot exactly remember which), but home-made into Vista. Stupid M$ has made another (big) enemy.

Doh! Yeah, I've seen that. It's possible, but I doubt it's because of the Symantec lawsuit because the lawsuit is about storage virutalization technology from Veritas (which Symantec bought) that Microsoft has had in their OSs since Windows 95 (in a limited fashion) under licensing agreements with Veritas.

Microsoft has said the contract gave them purchase rights to the technology in 2004 which they exercised. Apparently Symantec disagrees, but they both seem amicable about it, and just may need a court to decide the convoluted nature of the contract with Veritas now that Symantec owns them.

Vista will do dx9 in emulation. XP does DOS in emulation as well. Everyone knows how poorly support is for DOS games as well as 98 games are on XP. Because dx9 is alot more of a resource intensive monster to emulate than DOS is, I suspect it will be even worse this time around. In fact, I'd be willing to bet money that no Infinity Engine game will work.

    Yup, check this article out:

    http://www.gamespot.com/features/6151937/index.html

Now there is no reason upgrade at all. :D

If Vista doesn't have this, then I'm not getting it :p

I'm probably not getting Vista at all, since from what I've seen of all the screenshots on the net, it's simply ugly.

Yes, Windows Blinds. A most excellent program. I've been running it for sometime now. I've used the transparent windows, but my favorite is the all black desktop (GT, I think).

Nice call Dalveen! The oragami project looks awesome!!
Transparent menues - bah, these have been available in the KDE and Gnome for ages.
Whether I'll get it or not will depend solely on games. There are better solutions to just about everything else (linux distro's!!)

    Ahh, dear old Windows Vista.

It looks awesome... except for the ugly ass sidebar which is an obvious Mac OS X ripoff, and what's to say about IE7... the resemblance with Firefox is too uncanny to be just a coincidence.

A positive point of Vista is that if you wish to upgrade from, say, Home to Pro, you just pay the difference between the two licences, and POW! You're on pro.

The beta looks good... but it crashed during the presentation, similar to the blue screen of death incident during the presentation of Win98.

At any rate... we may or may not learn Vista at school, but we will be able to get a copy thanks to MSDNAA. Even though, I'll have to upgrade to meet the insane requirements...

Oh, and YES, it DOES have transparent menus.

I have a hard copy of Vista on my computer desk. I have yet to install it. I know my computer can handle the high end of Vista but I prefer how Windows XP Media Center has been treating me. Why upgrade when nothing is wrong with my computer?

Exactly my thoughts about OSs. Which is why I'm still using Windows 98.

But now Win98 is becoming obsolete (not supported by Microsoft, and some software will not work under Win98), so I will have to upgrade soon. I figured I might as well do it when I build my new computer. :)

My computer has not crashed on me since I installed XP Media Center 05 in November. I download all the updates. I upgraded from Windows IE6x to IE7 Beta and it is working better than IE6 ever did. I had firefox, but it didn't run all that well on my system.

I just got Linux Mandrake on my comp (well, my bro's laptop), and holy f***, that thing runs smooth! I'll NEVER go back to Windows! Just wait until I get home and install it on my X2... of course, there's the gaming problem, but Winblows can be emulated.

Bye-bye, Win ME.

Back on Windows Vista, it's possible we may end up working with it in Recent OS (some sort of follow-up to Aging OS), or we may end up with XP. We'll see then when the time comes.
