Probably because the designers figured that when you don't have control over ANY of your party members, it's game over.

AFAIK it's game over when you are charmed and I think that's bull****.

I meant that the game will automatically end if one of those things happens. You lose control of the entire party (all one of you), ending the game.

AFAIK, if all six party members were to get charmed, that would also end the game. Never tested it, though.

As Menion siad, I think that when you are charmed, mazed or whatever while soloing i think that the spell duration should play out while you have no control, and the game continues as nomral as if one of the NPC's was charmed. You should pock back up into view when the maze duration is over, and continue the fight from where it left off. The only problem with the whole charm thing, is would the CPU AI continue to attck you while you're charmed, or would they stand around like idiots because there are no longer any hostiles in the area therefore defeating the purpose of the carm in the first place

Of course the enemy kills you even if you are charmed and soloing, but since game's AI can't hurt friendlies, they would just stand and watch charm to wear off. It would be pretty stupid, so I think that's why charming ends the game when your soloing.

It should end if the PC is charmed. The spellcaster could simply order the PC to kill themselves or ask him to take his helmet off so the caster can whack the PC on the head again... and again... and again.
"Kyle, this is a whifflebat and I'm going to kill you with it. It will all be over in a couple of hours."
