i must say to your orriginal topic, that i, myself am an undead hunter; devoting my entire life to the destruction of the most unholy of creatures. (vampires especially)
For they do not bare the right to walk this worldly plain with us.

honored to meet you both, brothers.

(perhaps either of you would have a decent paladin portrait to share??)

[IMG] <A Squire enters. He taps a staff three times on the floor.>

The most humble servant of the Order of the Radiant Heart, Slayer of the dragons Firkraag and Thaxll'ssyllia, Eradicator of Shangalar and Bane of Kangaxx. I present Earl Grey the Inquisitor.

A silence falls as only the footsteps of the Paladin entering the hall can be heard. Everyone in the room is astonished that the squire managed to pronounce the name of the Shadow Dragon without as much as hint of a stutter...

    Hrmmm...
Any apples or oranges? I like apples. They are very tasty when you roast them... mmm, very tasty.

mmm, i personally don't need the services of a lowly sqiure to anounce my entry to any place... my presence is usually self endowed.

any how, i greet you in any case.

(though i have not been so cordially greeted myself...(coughs))

I too play an honorable Paladin by the name of Lothar. He smites evil with mighty Carsomyr and wards his body with the scales of the powerful, and loathsomely evil dragon Firkaag. No evil creature can stand before him, not even Jon Irenicus!

Sir Kahraman Hayat, arrived lately from the island nation of Kyrith, at your service. It is a pleasure to meet knights of like faith in this City of Coin, where the almighty dollar is worshipped by so many. Come to the Five Flagons, gentlemen, and I will buy a round of the best mead ever brewed. To each their strength: ours it is, as humans and paladins, to defend the oppressed; the halflings' lot it is to provide sustenance and cheer to encourage our spirits. Hail the kindness of Lathander!

    Enters Lord Praetor Munir,

I have never had a humble monk join my ranks, maybe it's because there are none to join the main character. But I would like to counter Nobleman's argument.

His hands are "enchanted". It's called, harnessing your inner strength, something the Chinese call Qi. We are after all in Faerun, and the concept of Qi can be better implemented. Besides, you only get these great hand abilities at high levels. It's only logical because you are a master of your innerself. You can decide if you want to be a slayer or not (that is great control). Why then can't you harness your Qi to a lethal point at that level?

Maybe its too powerful, but to give monks enchanted gloves in place of their innate/learned ability is just absurd.

The undead are a plague of the realms which must be destroyed and that is why i too specialise in the slaying of them. There is nothing as unholy as something that just will not die!
Liche and zombie fall side by side as they enter true death when Sir Dargorn and his companions cross swords with them!

Slappy, i would like you to know that Dwarfs would be especially welcome in the order as the axe is the noblest of weapons and none in the realms can weild one better than a Dwarf!

For the rest of you i would like you to join my order and campaign agaisnt tyranny, the Undead and all other evil!!!!!

    My lordship,

I won't join. With deep respects your high majesty.

I avoid paladins. Make me feel as tightass in many situations. I just use them when I need them, then I kick their * outta party. No, I don't hate 'em, I just don't love 'em.

    Sincerelly yours,

    Extremist (mc g/m/t true neutral)

i have the trusty jan jansen at my side who helps me with all my theiving requirements.
He is a good fellow really under that slightly strange exterior he is a fine gnome and his turnip soup is even finer!

You say you would rather be a theif and that is fine. You can pick a lock and backstab and steal and find traps but you can't face a hoard of vampires and live, nor can you cast priest spells, and nor can you smash your oponents with a +5 two handed sword!

You have to understand that i have respect for every profession even the monk!
They all have their uses and their weaknesses and not one is better than the other!

No man can better another. We were born as equals and that is how it stays.
    So says Sir Dargorn

    My opinion:

Paladins are a crucial class of beings. Some of us strive for goodness also but cannot quite obtain the level of piety and strength that Paladins can obtain--so don't look down upon your less holy comrades.

Ratchett: Pfeh, it be t'bloody high an' mighty club. Ye jist goes around callin' folks evil fer favourin' wealth distribution an' puttin' em' tae fire an' sword. Ye claim te be purely fer goodness, but ye're no infallible. Hypocrisy I calls that.

Sir Bedivere (current BG1 char): um, excuse me, wouldst thou kindly refrain from thy insults or I shalt say "Noo", sorry, "Ni" at thee.

Paul: Pray excuse me brother's temper, he kens not what he sayeth. Any step towards racial equality in the realms is to be welcomed. Solidarity Brother Slappy. As to all you Holy warriors, may Moradin be with you forever.

Okay so we have this to sum up about the Monk:

He is borned with an innate ability to channel out energy called Ki. This is likewise a sorceror.
This results in an outstanding MR. That makes even the wizard slayer, who has dedicated his life to slay magic, stand amazed.
His "Ki" eventually also allows him saves as if he was a dwarf. One of the only advantages Those sturdy people have (except for their +1 con)
It also allows him many immunities plus Lay on hands, covering most of the Paladin-kits advantages.

On the other hand he is an amazing fighter
Hitting both as a magical weapon and doing it with lightning speed and precision. at the culmination he attacks once/second. making even warriors stand astonished.
Their fighting abilities also allows him to deflect missile weapons and continously improving their ability to avoid blows.

His ki also allows him to use a wide variation of magical items, leaving the wizard-slayer to fumble in the dirt of mere humiliation.

    So as a conclusion:

Are You tired of being a fighter? are You tired of being a paladin? Then buy this new kit. Not only does it combine both classes advantages, it enhances them. Buy this ultimate fighting machine. We give You immunities to spellcasterattacks, faster movements and attacks.
So if You are tired of being hit! If You are of being charmed poisoned.. You name it. Then for only 1$ we give You a paperdoll implementation to Your Fairun-setting. So stop making stratiegies. And rush down to Your local store!!
We garantee You a 2-round dragonslaying machine... SO.... GET.... MOVING!!!

    EDITED HERE:

I simply do NOT like Monks. Send them out of Fairun or make them less God-like

***A dark cloaked figure walks slowly into the circle of conversation. He waits for a pause in the conversation and begins to speak. His eyes are clear blue, but drawn in tired circles. His shoulders are mighty, but stooped as if he carries an immense burden. His voice rings through the halls in a clear baritone, not loud, but carrying to the furthest corners . . .

Brothers, save the attitude and show what it means to be a paladin by example. We don't have such high charisma so that we can discuss the parking problems of the bridge district in a snotty tone. We are endowed with leadership so that when we charge, others are inspired by their example.

I am the humble servant of my Lord,my God and my King. My body and blood are sacrificed to His cause. We weapon skills are the sacrament of my devotion. My healing powers are the sign of my God's approval upon my conduct.

I am Mathetais (not Sir, not Lord, just Mathetais), and I am a Cavalier.

To all who witness this discussion:
Please look upon my and my brothers as your defenders, your examples, but mostly, as simple people. We are not your "betters", we are your servants. My body is scarred - though I enjoy life. My hands covered in blood - though I despise violence. My journeys take me far from home - though I love my wife and child.

My path is a path of sacrifice. I am not proud of what I do, indeed I do not do nearly enough. My God set the standard for my life and I try to live up to that standard. To do any less would be unthinkable.

*** He waits in silence for a full minute as his words finish ringing through the hall. Then meeting Avooch's eye, he nods in approval and walks back to his chair.
