The Grateful Dead - Formerly The Warlocks. ***** (five out of five stars).

The mail lady came early today, which was a good thing, since she dropped off the new Grateful Dead release on my doorstep. Formerly the Warlocks was released earlier this month and I've waited 2 weeks for it to arrive from Deadnet. It was more than worth the wait. Back in October, 1989, the Grateful Dead did two "stealth" shows in Hampton, Virginia. The city fathers said GD were not welcome back to play at Hampton Coliseum because of their rowdy, MJ smoking, following (aka: The Deadheads).

Thusly, the Dead devised the scheme of coming to town as "The Warlocks," the name they used in 1965 before becoming the Grateful Dead. Even the Marquee at Hampton Coliseum listed them as "The Warlocks" on October, 8, 1989. They even brought along a Le Mobile, state-of-the-art, remote studio to record the shows.

I've only had time to listen to the first show, but let me just say that it is fantastic. Not only was the band playing really, really well, just coming out with their last studio recording, Built To Last, but the 24-track tapes sound just great. Plus, the set list is awesome, spread out on a total of 6 CDs, mixed in glorious HDCD. You don't have to be a Deadhead to like this one.

Awesome album, Chandos. Kieth Moon goes crazy (more than usual) during Young Man Blues.

Today I listened to No Doubt - Tragic Kingdom (specifically the title track).
I'm not normally a huge fan of No Doubt, but I really like this album.

Rahkir - :thumb: Keith was raw, bright fire on the drums. At the moment, it's Bo Diddley - Bo Diddley is a Gunslinger.

    Gil Scott-Heron - I'm new here

I've heard very few or no albums like it. He's still sharp and with his older age, his voice has become even better. Anything you people can recommend that's a bit like this album?
