Tonight's dinner was a little more exciting. It was my first time trying out a newish Mexican restaurant called On The Border - Mexican Grill and Cantina. I ordered a summertime only special called "The Classic Five" which costs only costs $10 USD and includes 5 separate items. An amazing deal, especially since most items on the menu cost upwards of $15. Here's what I got:

    -Chicken Enchilada
    -Chicken Flautas (2)
    -Cheese Quesadilla
    -Crispy Beef Taco
    -Border-Style Ribs (delicious)

Any of those items could be substituted for a Beef Empanada, but I chose not to go that route.

The meal was complemented with some spanish rice, sour cream, salsa, and a spicy cheese sauce. Of course, they served all the chips and salsa you can eat for free, as is customary at any Mexican restaurant worth their salt.

I couldn't finish even half my plate.

For desert my wife ordered a warm chocolate brownie topped with vanilla ice cream. Yes, I had a few bites. It was heavenly.

All the food was fresh, and very tasty. This definitely was not a calorie conscious meal, but what the hey. It was worth the splurge. It was a late lunch/early dinner, so it counted for 2 meals for me.

I share this just so everyone knows that it's not all about eating food substitutes for me. I will be at the Grand Canyon for 4 days next week, and I plan to eat heartily while I'm there also. I'll be burning a lot of calories while I'm there, so there will be no regrets. :)

Yesterday I had Escargots à la bourguignonne (snails) for supper, with and bread and rose wine. Only bad thing is that I drank the whole bottle, but the hangover was slight.

Rose wine is the work of the devil. Wine should be so red you can't see through it, or white wine is acceptable so long as it's a very fine Pinot Grigio. Rose wine is for girls and weird German people; and I know you're not a girl, so that kind of narrows it down!!

    Barmy,
and I thought being doctrinaire about food was my field :D Rose wine, served cold, is all right for warm days and for serving with light food, like snails. It can be difficult to find some decent one. It ought to be dry, and don't pay less than three pounds per bottle (a good rule of thumb for wine generally). I would have taken Riesling, but since I last had Escargots à la bourguignonne with rose wine in Dijon, I went for French Rose.

Breakfast - during the week, just coffee. On the weekends, I'll have dinner with my wife and son. It's always either eggs (usually scrambled) with a bagel, french toast, or pancakes/waffles. Whatever the 3-year old picks.

Lunch is invariably whatever was left from dinner the previous night (which happens to be roasted chicked today).

Dinner is highly variable, but Jack and I love pasta, so that's usually what it is twice a week. To "go-to" meal would be pasta mixed with pork sausage with girlled onions and green peppers. (Oh, and parmesean cheese of course.)

Jesus yea! My general rule is anything below a tenner is a no go. Usually you can find £10 bottles of wine for half price, or buy a few and get a discount, but I rarely drink crap wine. It makes me gip!

Yeah, 3 pounds is what? Like 5 dollars? I didn't know you could even buy wine that cheap.

When I was 13-15 I used to go out and get pissed on 20/20 and White Lightning. I don't think they even do those anymore! I think just the smell of 20/20 now would make me throw.
