For a bit more information on my names I will now expalin the names of the Ironbeard brothers
Ratchett - My main character, as he specialises in traps and locks, I derived his name from the only mechanical thingmybob I could think of that sounded good-ish as a name.
Cedric - His brother, created for a multiplayer game - I just think the name Cedric sounds good for a mediaval cleric.
Paul - It was suggested that I rename Cedric this, after a pawl, which apparently is the tooth in a ratchet thar stops the wheel turning. In the TOI, Cedric became a dead thief and Paul became the priest - because I have to keep Ratchett and Paul together.
Ironbeard- The surname was my player name in the multiplayer games.

Mhalek is short for the biblical name Malachai. Sure biblical names are cool, but I got this one off of the movie "Children of the Corn"

Well, if ya really wanna know....
Like one or two others in this thread, I was trying to get a good online name, and everything I tried was already 'owned' and to use it you had to add a number... Well, I wanted to be unique, like everybody else, lol! Now, when I was at University, my sub. topic was Old Icelandic, so I had several books of Old Icelandinc stories, and they were right next to the computer.... The title of one of them was 'The Fljotsdale Saga'. So I keyed it in. As I expected, nobody else used it! I rather like it now, though it was a bit awkward at first!
Ps. Fljotsdale was the name of a valley in 12c Iceland!

  6. I know I know not a very original name.
I took it simply because I was kicking Firkraag's ass at the time and was a little hung up on slaying Dragons....

Reading all of these explanations on your names kind of makes me wanna change mine

I think I've posted this elsewhere....

I usually make up my names on the fly, but occasionally when it's really important to me, I go to language dictionaries. Germanic-Slavic for Dwarves, Arabian for elves, etc. One of my favorite characters was a paladin. After trying a few languages, I decided Turkish was the one with the right flavor. I looked up several words, and came up with Kahraman Hayat, meaning the paladin of life. I didn't realize that this might have been the inspiration for some more famous characters until my friend misspelled it Caramon. Huh...

My character in BG2 (DC Berserker/Cleric) was Aridhol. The Jordan fans among you will recognize this as an ancient city from after the Breaking. I don't recall when (after Trolloc Wars perhaps?), but this city closed its doors, attempting to defend against the shadow by distrusting everyone and everything. This distrust turned to hatred and eventually destroyed the city from within, becoming the spirit of Shadar Logoth, which is the city's current name.

I chose Aridhol because although the potential is there for him to be consumed from within by the essence of evil, there is still hope for him to overcome his heritage and write a new ending.

Tyresian comes from the Dragonlance book kindred spirits. Tyresian was Tanis's tutor and a elven ranger lord.(i think) Since i usually play elven rangers, the name was perfect(if somewhat unoriginal)

Cry Havok! Let slip the Dogs of War!

That would be me and my merry band of slimey cutthroats (ahem... brave adventurers) all throughout BG, BG2, and IWD.

Not real original or inventive, but it works for me.

[IMG] Lokken is the name of an evil necromancer who rose an army of undead to take control of the world known as Darien...

The war was going fine for Lokken, but his elder brother managed to smuggle in an army that got to the very heart of Lokken's homeland, here the two brothers fought a grand battle and Lokken was the one to fall for the blade of goodness, sniff :(

Sprite was my high school nickname. At first I got into D&D because my boyfriend gamed and I'd just lurk around waiting for him to be done. The DM announced that I must be an NPC, and after lengthy review of the monster manual the group decided I was a sprite. And a good thing, too- I mean, if they'd decided I was an ettercap I'd have been MAD. Anyway, I got addicted to games myself and haven't been an NPC for a decade... but I always smile when I see a sprite!

I chose shadow assassin cause one day I was screwing around with my character colors and ended up making him totally black. he looked like a shadow in the inventory and when he hid in the shadows. being that his class was an assassin and I thought it was to cool making him my main character I thought it was only fitting.
