While I know the piddly Sword of the Mask is not well liked. That Entangle affect has no save. when it works it works automatically. Makes it a bit more useful in ToB against those monsters that can make every save in the world. Though from an outright power point of view there are better.

Maybe because you can just buy the pathetic little weapon at the TOP of Watcher's Keep ... all the good weapons are inside! But seriously I think a sword with Mask's name should be a little better though ...

Just an fyi, DoE is a +2 flail. The only time it claims to be a +3 is in the title of the description when you right click on it. The damage is 1d6+2.

Actually, that's the mistake in the desc. It is a +3 flail, with +3 to THAC0 and 1d6+4 damage, since a flail does 1d6+1 normally.

Defender of Easthaven is really a solid choice, as it is available early in the game - you just need to get enough money - and provides some nice defensive bonuses that you just don't get with any other weapon chioces. Plus, in ToB, it's kind of impossible to avoid getting hit, so something that reduces damage is, IMO, superior to the slight chance of reducing the chances of getting hit by using a shield. Unfortunately, it's not going to help much on the offensive side of things. If you're trying to reduce damage, great choice - if you're trying to maximize damage, poor chioce.

For outright damage, and combination of Foebane, Angurvadal, Spectral Brand, or the Answerer will work (all choices assume you're upgrading - except for the Answerer which can't be upgraded). The Answerer is really under-rated IMO. As has been pointed out a GWW with the Answerer will likely reduce an enemies magic resistance and THAC0 to rubbish. Then it's just mop-up work for you mages.

Yeah, that's why I got confused. I remembered it being called a +2 weapon in-game at some stage, I guess the Baldurdash dialog fix changes it though.

It's in the unmodified ITM file, yes.
