[IMG] I picked up some ward stones, blue and green, perhaps others, on level one. I dutifully put them in my bag, but never found a place to use them.

Where do you put them? Or did I pass through something that required them, but did not tell me to use them or take them from me?

I'm actually on level four, about to open the last seal. <trembling> But I want to have done everything in WK just in case it's blown to bits after I fight with this bad demonic thingy. I just realized I hadn't gotten the weapon from the Mad Device. Nor have I played with it randomly.

Perhaps I could have my character do a random selection on Lum's, then use my deck of many things (which I pickpocked from the Gambler!)as my first move after the dialog clears.

What kind of things have you folks gotten from the Deck or Lum?

I think you passed through something that required them but didn't ask you.
As far as the deck of cards go and Lum this is what I got.

I got 50,000 experience points once, polymorphed into a rabbit, and dire charmed once. I think the effects are random. The deck disappears after so many uses.
The Machine of Lum the Mad will give you
+ 1 to all of your stats. Randomly 100,000 experiences points, Magic resistance once, Storm Star Mace + 3 once, random negative effects (imprisonment, petrification, lightning, flames), and a super healing potion will appear in your pack randomly. I think that's all. I know there's a post that covers what else the machine gives.

If the two wardstones were half orbs, one with a green face and one with a blue, they were for level one. On that level, there is a chamber to the northwest or so of the alter room. In there is the priests crypt guarded by 2 golems. The wardstones let you pass by the golems without them attacking you.

As far as randomly messing around with the machine, I wouldn't recomend it. Some nasty things can happen to you, I think 80% bad with only a couple of good options, mentioned above. As far as the deck, I don't know. I kinda liked that Carrion so I let him use my ward to leave the Keep.
