I'm in the muncking squad as well when it comes to the issue...

I personally think that a third BG game could very well be possible, but it should start from scratch indeed. I wonder, if Aerie's pregnancy in ToB is something of a foreshadowing that newver had a chance to take place? Sure, BG: TYhe Nexct Generatios sounds a bit dumb, and could be screwed up royally (Can you imagine Minsc Junior? *shudder*) but it would have potential.

The charactewrs wouldn't have to start from level 1, imgho. If you're the kid of a super-duper-freaking bahaalspawn, you're probably level 5 by the age 10. Or something like that. I mean, with all the enemies your parents have, you've probablyy learned to defend yourself friom an early age.

I could see the plot being centeres around the Bhaal essence secreted away... or something like that.

Or words to that effect anyway...

[IMG] Think about it guys - you're character ends BG2 TOB as a god... so have the next game be a God sim! Like Populous or Black and White. It'd be cool, you'd gain power by getting worshippers, and use it to smite rival gods!!

Seriously, I think the best idea would be to concentrate on improving the NWN engine, as 3D holds great possibilities for the future if we can just get the engine. Look at Half Life 2, imagine a roleplaying game with that level of realism...

There would be a million and one ways to resurrect the saga but it is not going to happen so there is no point in rattling on about it.

Considering how many mods there are for BG1 and 2, it wouldn't be beyond the realms of possibility that someone - or a group of someones - could make a mod was which in effect BG3.

There was a plan for a mod like this but I think that it has remained incomplete.

Was this mod going to be free? I wouldnt pay for a mod of "BG 3". I would most likely buy the game though if it were made.

I went to vote for BG, but the lure of Planescape was too strong. Sure, BG2 was the best game ever made, but could you IMAGINE the stuff they could do with the Planescape setting? Now that's a sequel I'd want to play. Really, BG2 was incredible. There's not much they can do to improve upon it. Ps:T was also an incredible gaming experience, and since literally anything goes in the Planescape setting, there's virtually no limits on developers to do whatever they want.

I'd pay for a BG3 mod but only assuming I could play a trial version of it for free beforehand. Maybe the trial version could have a level cap set incredibly low, or most of the areas disabled, or most NPCs cut out. Buy the game and you get the codes to open up the rest of it.
