Well, it looks like Cheney did quite a bit of lying last night. :/

Of course, denying that he "suggested" a 9-11 and Saddam connection was a lie. The administration has, quite effectively, confused Iraq, Al Qaida, and Al Qaida's attack on the US. Of course when you say Al Qaida and Iraq are linked you MUST qualify your remarks, which Cheney never did. All most Americans know of Al Qaida is that they are responsible for 9/11 - nothing else. He knew *exactly* what confusion he was causing with those remarks.

When he went off on his tirade of Edward's record he lied - twice. First, the "first time I ever met you was when you walked on this stage tonight" was a lie. He met Senator Edwards three years earlier at a breakfast. Second, as for Edward's "attendance record," Edwards has a 84.8% voting record. One of the best voting records in Senate.

I wonder how that can be when the average voting attendance in the Senate for the years Edwards was a Senator are all greater than 96%.

That's still better than Shrub's attendance in flight school, or wherever the hell he was supposed to be.

    Blackthrone -

You're right, I made a mistake. I wrote that forgetting what point I was trying to make. His pre-campaigning voting record is absolutely superb, in fact, almost flawless. The nature of campaigning disallows a senator to attend many votes. It just comes with the territory. Dick had to malign the data in the worst possible way to insinuate that Senator Edwards doesn't care about his job. Perhaps not a "lie," but absolutely an act of deception - which, in my book, is even worse.

Why is that a lie? It's the absolute truth if you ask me. Edwards (and Kerry as well) are more concerned with their political aspirations than doing the job their state's people voted them to do.

If I missed 15.2% of my work and only accomplished 84.8% of the tasks I was assigned, I'd be fired, especially if they found out the reason I missed all the work was because I was trying to get a new job. You have to remember, this is their current job, and you only have two Senators to represent your state.

At least in Massachusettes the other Senator is Democratic, but in North Carolina, the other Senator is Republican. I'm sure the North Carolina Democrats are real happy that Edwards is missing so many votes.

BTA your logic is highly flawed. A sound argument would be something akin to, "due to their missed votes, x number of bills were passed/didn't pass." Now answer me, how many bills pass or didn't pass as a direct consequence of their missed votes?

As it stands, your argument lacks substance.

I'm afraid not. As I said, their current job is to vote on legislation, and they are not fully doing their job in order to run for president/vice president. Those are the facts.

Does it matter to you? Perhaps not, because like you said, their absence may not have affected outcomes. However, Cheney didn't make claims that their absence affected outcomes (as far as I recall), he merely pointed out their frequent absence from their Senatorial duties.
