I think the last ultima game I played was III....so it's hard to compare it tho BG! But at the time I remember that the Ultima games were very cool. Which ones should I get/are worth getting if I decide to try one of them again....obviously not Pagan.

Ultima IV and V are great if you liked the style of III. Ultima VI was fun as well, but not as good as IV and V.

And the Ultima VIIs (parts 1 and 2 and their expansions) were great fun though the combat was no longer turned based.

After that it was all downhill.

I personally like Ultima 6 the best. Graphics were improved over previous Ultimas, you still had party control, and conversation required typing. Whatever happened to the days where one actually had to remember and pay attention to what the NPCs were saying.

Ultima's 4-7 were excellent. 6 is probably my favorite, but 7 is close.

    Pagan was crap.
    Ascension was crap.

It is hard to compare them to BG though. They are quite different. Ultima 4 is probably the purest roleplaying game ever made. Storywise, 4-7 stand up to anything BG has to offer. As far as the other roleplaying elements (races, classes) BG is better. This is obviously due to DnD. Same with weapons and armor.

Ignoring the obvious differences between the technology, I would say that Ultimas 4, 6, 7 are as fun as the BG's.
