[IMG] This is mainly for those of you who have a good knowledge of both 3.5 edition D&D as well as the old 1st and 2nd edition AD&D.

How would you say Turning Undead has changed? Is it more powerful or less powerful in 3.5 than it was before?

In ToEE - which seems to be quite faithful to the 3.5 rules - clerics with the Sun domain seem to me to be exceedingly powerful turners compared to have it used to be. Is this the way of PnP 3.5 as well? If so doesn't that make undead too weak?

No. A colossal skeleton (CR 7), has a whopping 48 HD. Even the greatest cleric in the world (20th level) with an Amulet of Turning Resistance couldn't touch that thing. Not to mention turn resistance, which spectres, wraiths, vampires, liches, and even the lowly ghoul all have.

An undead may spend a feat slot for +4 turn resistance, at the DM's option.

Not to mention that the DM doesn't have to include undead if he doesn't want to. ;)

Keep in mind that some priests can turn Elementals and Plants. Using supplementary books, they can even turn outsiders, animals, spiders, reptiles, etc.

Would animals include humans? That would be nice thing to have.

[IMG] Humans are not counted as animals. Turning is rather different between 1st, 2nd and 3rd edition. Like most aspects of the game there are a great number of options in 3E than existed before. For example in 2E turning was a straight number roll based on your cleric level and the type of undead. In 3E you can take many feats to affect turning and undead can also have many abilities to affect the process as well.
I like these changes since I think that different clerics should have greater or lesser turning powers based on their deity and course of study. As with most things 3E allows this flexibility that was lacking in earlier editions.
