Yay, now, since I am a techie who likes to read about techie stuff:

Who is the writer of the "Programmer's Bible"?

    Hint 1:
After approx. 44 years, it's still not finished!

Nope, even though Bill Gates is a pretty good programmer, he did not write it.

Edit: And besides, Bill is only 50 years old.

Oh well, that's exhausted my list of famous computer programmers.

John Backus? He is the bloke who did FORTRAN, and as godawfully complex it may be, it was still one of the very first languages, so most of the way of thinking was inherited by other languages.

Well, either him or the guy who writes the ...for Dummies series. :D

    Nope, not John Backus.

    Hint II:
I originally placed the name of the series between quotation marks to indicate that it is the nickname as it is known in techiecircles.
I thought it would spoil it a bit too much if I immediatly gave away the name of his work, but I feel now that it is unfair towards the nontechies. So, the real name is: The Art of Computer Programming.

    Nope, time for another hint.

    Hint III:
This is the same man, who upon seeing the galley print of the second book in the Art of Programming series, was so displeased with the typesetting. That he worked for 10 years, nonstop, on the TeX typesetting language.

Morgoth, if I didn't know any old programmers before, then your clue isn't really going to help.

    Tex Pistol?

Well yeah, it wasn't meant for just you ;)

If it hasn't been answered within 1 hour, I'll post a new question.

    Edit:
The question is still not answered, too bad.
Donald Knuth wrote(is still writing) the series, I thought you were a real programmer Harbourboy? ;)

The new question, an easy one:
Who was the general of the Gallic tribes that fought Julius Caesar in the great Gallic Wars, losing the decisive battle of Alesia?

On June 1944 the 2nd Waffen SS Panzer Division "Das Reich" during its march to the frontlines of Normandy commited one of the worst atrocities of the western front by burning a french village and massacring the whole population as reprisals to the attacks of the french resistance. The French never repaired the village and left its ruins standing there as a memorial. Which is this village?

Yes but the correct spelling is Oradour. You may continue teekc.
    I don't understand why it's funny  .
