Well lets rule out the obvious question first, and pleaes forgive me for asking. Do you by chance have autopause enabled when you detect a trap. If so, the game will pause everytime a trap is dectected and you can't move until you unpause the game. That's the simple answer. If something else is the matter, well, sounds like a nasty bug I had the fortune of not finding. Have you downloaded the patch? IWD is a bit buggy. Also, does the game ever unfreeze after it locks up or do you have to shut down after a trap is dectected?

You can disable this in Game Options you know... But I prefer to have it on and hit space after I find one. Otherwise it's usually too late before I noticed the trap. ;)
