@Balle - As armour is hit it degrades so that your defence rating decreases. Sure after a fight you can 'hammer' the armour back into shape, but during a big fight with say 3 Goblin warlords or a few daedroths you will not get the chance.

    Enchanted/enhanced robes do not degrade.
I have a hood, robe and shoes all with 25% Shock Shield using sigil stones from Oblivion Gates. With them I have 75 armour (out of poss 85). Then I equip my shield Spellbreaker gained from a Daedric Shrine (reflects spells 30%) and I am better than 85...but it shows as the max...85.

So although I mooch around in robes looking helpless I am actually better protected than most Knights or great warriors. And my protection stays.

I would highly recommend that others do the same.

IMO using Armor on Mages is a good thing...nothing stopping you from doing it apart from RP...

For instance, I like nothing better than just run around in a custom enchanted set of black robes...but I also like the bad-ass feel of getting decked out in full Daedric Armor and getting up close and personal with Touch spells on enemies...

That's the great thing about Oblivion...feel free to mix it up!
