Oh, yes. THAT'S something I'm concerned about. In fact, it's at the top of my list ahead of the economy, the "war," Healthcare, Education...NOT. Thank you, but that explains why I didn't bother.

C'mon chandos, you are better than "i have my fingers in my ears so i can't hear anything bad you say about obama!!"

It is just another link in a clear pattern that a large part of america was hornswaggled & hoodwinked by a good PR man.
He talked a good game but can't seem to step up when it really matters.

He is just like some Martial Artist's i know. Technically they are brilliant, all of their forms are perfect & they have all the knowledge available.
They are great in tournament, however put them in a real fight & they get their @sses handed to them.
They have the theory & knowledge but not the real life experience & (most importantly)mind-set to use it.

I'm actually concerned about policy. Really, and I'm not directing this at you personally, but it takes a real moron to believe that anyone could clean up the mess we are in after just a few months. I know that you are wishing and hoping that he fails, but we still have a long way to go to see if his policies pan out for the country. Talk to me about his "failures" six months from now. You can be sure that you will be hearing from me about his "successes."

Right now all you have is a broken teleprompter. And that ain't much.

Thats fair enough chandos but until then, i'm gonna make fun of his screwups just like y'all did to bush.
And the next item on the floor for your amusement:D, http://gatewaypundit.blogspot.com/2009/03/obama-upsets-sarkozy-with-letter-to.html
Thats nice and all but there is just one little problem.
It always helps to talk to the one that is actually in charge not the former big cheese.:p
You just know if bush had done it, you would have been all over him about it.

Also the gifts given & received by prime minister Gordon Brown
& what did obama give Mr Brown?
Even worse than it seems at first.
Now isn't obama supposed to be the most high tech president we have ever had? Yet he doesn't know enough to get the right region DVD's?

I have no problem with that. I just wish there was more substance so that the rest of us could join in. But I think like some others, Obama will do some good things, and not so good things. I wish you would give him half a chance. I didn't really turn on GWB until the Iraq War. Of course, 9/11 brought us together for a brief moment and he had my support after the attacks - until he invaded Iraq.

martaug, I'd prefer you didn't rely on bloggers at all, since they're notoriously unreliable and accountable to no one (that, and thoughtlessly copy/pasting "their take" several times a day instead of doing basic research and forming opinions on your own just makes you look like a chump). Chandos is right, we would all appreciate it if you'd attempt a little substance once in a while. Then we might take you seriously.

Everybody screws up occasionally even you(even though no living person can attest to it. We know its true!!:D).

Sorry for a slight diversion :yot: but this surprised me - not that Obama did it - I had no idea that DVDs were region-specific. Does it have to do with the DVD itself or the DVD player, or both? I consider myself a fairly tech-savvy person, but I never knew this - probably because I was never in a situation where I would need to know this. But seriously - is it common knowledge that DVDs from Europe don't work in North America and vice versa?

Yes it is, at least outside of North America. Well, dont know about common knowledge. Considering the level of ignorance of the average person there is not much I would consider to be common knowledge but it is common knowledge among the people who have any interest in technology even the very small interest of someone like me. Everything comes first in the states and a lot is released in the states that is never released in Europe I think that is why Europeans know about it and Americans dont. Sometimes we buy stuff from the US and most of our dvd players are region free meaning the read all regions.

Did the Prez go to Walmart, or Blockbuster, and buy them himself? It would be kind of a strange thing, to see Barack and Michelle in the check-out line.

I agree, as I'm sure he didn't buy it himself. But, aren't you the least bit worried about the general level of incompetence he seems to be surrounding himself with?

So the issue is with the DVD player not the DVD itself?

As mistakes go it's pretty bloody minor -- one would hope that a head of state would have access to enough equipment to read all sorts of data. I don't think that this implies incompetence either for Obama or his staff, but we all know that if BUSH had made such a mistake there would have been a hue and cry heard across the land.

Of course. How else can a bunch of former GWB supporters discuss "competence?" :)

This problem is a non-issue for most tech-savvy Europeans because we buy region-free (or at least unlockable) DVD players. It's only the people who don't know much about DVDs that would run into this problem. I would consider the region lock common knowledge at least among the people who don't buy the first DVD player they see on a store shelf...

I couldn't agree with you more. Ragusa would have had a post with at least five links in it. I think I'm almost getting nostalgic. I'm starting to think that Obama getting elected may have been the worst thing to happen to the Alleys. This role reversal of attack dogs becoming defenders and vice versa is becoming quite confusing :)
