Does the recent publicilty stunt between Obama and Chavez actually mean anything, or is it just that - a stunt? And if just a stunt, was Obama an unwilling or willing participant?

 

I think it was a stunt and Obama was an unwilling participant.

 

Drew, that was an interesting post -- is Limbaugh criticizing Obama for saving the life of the captain by killing the criminals? If so, Limbaugh is an idiot.

If, on the other hand, he is pointing out that had Bush done this the Dems would have been all over him but they are dead silent because it's Obama who did it, well, then I'm with him on that. I don't think Obama made a mistake by having those little bastards shot. But it's not the fact that Obama did it that makes the decision right, it's just that it was the right decision. Had Bush done it, it would still have been the right decision.

I don't particularly care for mr limbaugh, but if you read the transcript in it's entirety, there seems to be a good bit of satire & sarcasm in it.
Couldn't listen to the audio link so i don't know for sure.

I normally rank rush right up there with Janeane Garofalo of the left. Both of them need their medication adjusted pronto.

Good God! I've heard of Rush before and had a general idea of his positions and such, but I'd never really read his stuff. He's hardly coherent. If this is what Joaquin and Ragusa are thinking of when they trash conservatives, I can't say as I blame them. What an idiot. If he's trying to convey irony in that Obama did something that Bush would have done (that in fact any strong willed, gutsy President would have done) he didn't do it very clearly. If he's pointing out the irony in that the left hates the military but was willing to use it in this situation, he also failed the clarity test. Any way you slice it, it's weak, weak, weak. Surely the right can get a more eloquent speaker than this guy.

For the record, if this is the quality of criticism Obama's administration gets over the next couple of years, look forward to 8 years of Obama.

Is Garofolo speaking as a comedian or a serious political commentator. IMHO she failed at whichever she was aiming for.

 

LKD, it is more or less. The thing is, no matter what people may claim, is that Rush and his fellows are not fringe people on the right. They are important, highly influential people within the Republican movement. I am not that up to date but didnt Limbaugh score some major post within the Republican party quite recently? These people in my experience express the main stream of American conservatism. They wouldn't be so bad if they actually were far right fringe loonies but they aren't. That space is occupied by *real* wackos, with guns.

 

The difference is, one is easily the most influential conservative in the country, and one is famous for being in a movie with a rollerskating dog. I'd hardly say they rank equally. And if you mean they rank equally in terms of extremist rhetoric, what does it say that Rush is such a god among the right and Garofalo is a b-list celebrity activist at best?
