    Is El Playa del Carmen in the Yucatan peninsula? If so, I think I've been there, and it was beautiful! But the drug stuff down there is crazy... we got stopped by the Mexican army because they wanted to check our car for cocaine.

    I think I'm done in the alleys for good now. You guys may see me in the gaming forums now and then (when I get stuck on a quest...which is often), but the futility of online debate is more apparent to me now than ever. When you try to engage people that don't operate on the same bedrock of common sense and reality, and you have to spend hours debunking nonsense, misinformation, and obvious partisan shillery before you can even begin to discuss the core issue, productive debate is all but impossible. All I seem to get out of it anymore is frustration and disappointment in other members here, and I've wasted a good chunk of my twenties swimming against a current when I could have been far more productive professionally (i.e., I do most of my posting from work, which is neither healthy or smart).

    So at long last, I'm hanging up my spurs - so to speak. Have fun, kids - and be nice to Splunge, he can't help it if he smells like that.

    I've tried excluding, I've tried ignoring. It never seems to last. I give the people I find the most frustrating second chances, undeserved respect and benefits of doubt, only to be disappointed and frustrated again and again. It has, in short, stopped being fun. And isn't that what posting here is supposed to be about?

    I have to start thinking about my career and my life goals now that I'm married, and I realize now how much time I have spent (wasted?) in the last 6 years obsessively arguing in the alleys for no tangible gain. I want to make a name for myself in my field, and in order to do that I have to shed parts of my life that tend to be a detriment to that goal. Not to toot my own horn, but I'm very good at what I do, I graduated top of my class, and should have a lot more to show for myself at this stage of my career.

    Since I habitually come here as a distraction when I should be working, that means the alleys have got to go. My recent alley frustration just made me realize how much I've been holding myself back. It isn't just SP - I've largely given up on politics, too, for the same reasons. Maybe it's because I'm about to turn 30. Who knows. Either way, best wishes to you all, and I'm sure you'll see me in the gaming forums/sensorium now and then.

    Well, you have to do what is best for you and your family in this regards. No doubt, there has been a lot of pointless bickering over some petty points in recent debates. But as far as wasting productive time, I thought that was what the internet was all about. :)
