I just saw the 'big' did you know topic. Well, I did know that the big day out, aka BDO, this year is going to rule.

The Big Day Out is Australia's answer to Ozzfest. It has a load of music talent, new and old, and is one of the must dos of the Australian concert circuit. Anyone that plans to be here for the Rugby World Cup Finals should plan to stick around for another 2 months to wait for BDO. This year's line up is (sorry its in caps, cut and paste job):

    Metallica *
    The Strokes *
The Hoodoo Gurus (Aus. Only) *
    Muse
    The Dandy Warhols *
    The Darkness
    The Flaming Lips
    Jet (Aus. Only) *
    Magic Dirt (Aus. Only)
    Something For Kate
    The Mars Volta
    Basement Jaxx
    DJ Afrika Bambaataa
    The Datsuns *
    Kings of Leon *
    Peaches
    Black Eyed Peas
    Aphex Twin
    Luke Vibert
    Gerling *
    Lost Prophets
    Salmonella Dub
    Thursday
    David Holmes
    Trey
    Audio Bullys
    Felix da House Cat
    Poison the Well
    King Kapisi
    P-Money and Scribe
The Butterfly Effect (Aus. Only) *
    Downsyde (Aus. Only)
    Friendly (Aus Only)
    Scribe
    Blood Duster (Aus Only)
    PNAU (Aus Only)
    Pee Wee Ferris (Aus Only)
    Skulker (Aus Only)
    Sonicanimation (Aus Only) *
The Sleepy Jackson (Aus Only) **
    1200 Techniques (Aus Only)
    BLINDSPOTT (NZ Only)
    CONCORD DAWN (NZ Only)
    DJ PHILIPPA (NZ Only)
    ELEMENO P (NZ Only)
    Goodshirt (NZ Only)
    MAREKO feat. DECEPTIKONZ (NZ Only)
    THE MINT CHICKS (NZ Only)
    The D4 (NZ Only)

    * = Awesome, must see.

Anyway, give us a yell on what you think, if you'll go (now) and if you think that your opinion will somehow be related to this.

Rotku wants to go but he is to lazy to find a way up to Auckland and to find a place to stay.

So as I've told myself the last 2 years, maybe next year.

Man - wish I could go! :wail:

(Unfortunately, I am a bit far away, and a trip to Australia is, well, out of my price range for a concert, no matter how awesome!)

i will be going (to the auckland one)

not going to miss metallica, datsuns, scribe...

and if tool come as well (i heard somewhere that maynard was going to bring them along since APC dropped out??) then it's definitely going to be the event of the year

metallica was the surprise i have to say, if their setlist for the last year is anything to go by, i am not going to miss them - only 3 songs from the load-st anger era, blackened LIVE plus sanitarium

the only thing that could beat that is children of bodom touring NZ, but that's not going to happen anytime soon

The Mars Volta would be a nice change of pace, but the must sees for the day are:
    Metallica
    The Sleepy Jackson
    The Datsuns
    Jet

These four bands are well worth the ticket cost.

The tickets are priced at $98 (AUD), plus another couple of dollars for the booking fee. There is still plenty of tickets going around.

I can include airfares if you wish, but I doubt that anyone that lives as far away as Finland are going to want to come. The Australian BDO is the one to be at, sorry NZ but no Sleepy Jackson for you.

    EDIT:
HAHA, I'm guessing no one is flying to Australia for a trip to the BDO.
    From (via Qantas) Return:
New York to Melbourne - $4800 (AUD)
San Francisco to Melbourne - $3872 (AUD)
London (Heathrow) to Melbourne - $2392 (AUD)
Zurich to Melbourne - $2406 (AUD)
Berlin to Melbourne - $5387 (AUD)

This doesn't include the ticket itself. Although, note should be taken by those in UK, that the price is approximately 2 1/2 times cheaper in Sterling.

I've been meaning to go to BDO ever since the damn thing started, got a bit p'd off when I heard a couple years back that it was getting cancelled, and this year looks like another when 'meaning' won't have the means to become 'going'. :sosad: :wail:
