Sheesh! And here I thought that many of you people had been around longer than me.

Btw, Susi, my first avatar was the one you have now. I'd like to see it more often! :D

I love it! Now some of the Old Timers have joined in.

@Harbourboy, Icewind Dale II was a killer for me. I had struggled through Baldurs Gate II by myself after about six starts but Icewind Dale II did me in.

Is THIS an object of nostalgia these days? THIS? My word.

Hey, what can I say? "Nostalgia isn't what it used to be."

Edit: What I actually meant was that when I first entered these boards, this was the sound to start with. True nostalgia (for me) is different from that. I bet you people would call "burning your hands on those all-consuming tongues of light" nostalgia. ;)

Tongues of light? I guess I'm not old enough, but I do remember our first computer, which was a Commodore 64, and no internet. We didn't have internet until I went to college. I got it for free, and my parents got it as well, then, to communicate with me.

Oh, Pine, how I miss thee!

The dial-up sound sounded even more horrible than this through my PC speaker. I shiver at the memory.

I guess I'm getting a little allergic to certain brands of geek nostalgia these days. Like, on the Tube, you see these amazing musicians and singers...and what do they do to gain listeners? They perform video game music that has nostalgia appeal. I like good old video games as much as the next guy, but that seems a little screwy to me.

Tongues of light? What are those?

That was a (I suspect all too literally translated) metaphor for Flames/Fire.

This is a hilarious review of pre-SP internet technology through the perspective of the 1995 Sandra Bullock thriller 'The Net.' At least she didn't seem to have any connectivity issues. ;)

I seriously think you should create a new achievement for 10+ year veterans.

You already have the 1 year anniversary, why not one for 5 years and especially 10 years?

Funny, my join date is listed as 2005, but I could have sworn I joined in late 2003 or early 2004 around the time I got Baldur's Gate I and Icewind Dale.

Well, based on a search, your earliest post was May 6, 2005. Might you have joined under a different name before that and then done a second account?

Oh goh the dial up sound. I had to listen to that until about 2007 when we finally got comcast cable. I was playing MUDs on telnet up until then becuase of my crappy half 56k AOL speeds. The good old days.

Holy cow... ten years. My decade anniversary seems to have just ticked by too. It's really quite amazing to think I've been here for that long, even if most of the time has been lurking.

What the heck was so special about 2003? All the cool people joined in that year. Taluntain, if you want more members, then just do whatever you did in 2003 again.
