If you put, say, +2 arrows in Gesen's bow, does it revert to a +2 weapon in determining what it can hit (since that is generally set by the missile rating, not the weapon), or does it stay at +4?

Exactly ... if you use non-magical arrows, you cannot damage anything that needs +1 and more. If you are using 'nothing', you have +3 (+4) respectively for each one of the bows.

And if you put a +2 arrow in the Gesen bow what is the damage? d6 +2 +4? or do you lose the +4 from the bow?

I believe the damage stacks with both bows. I found a pretty good thread here .

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you get the Gesen String in the Asylum, so you don't get Gesen until quite late in the game. Once you have it, the question is relevant, but Tansheron comes much earlier, and will help you longer.

Correct on the string, L.K.D. Plus you can't do anything with it util you get it back to Cromwell (athough that's probably what you meant by "late in the game"). It's still a cool bow, though.

So just so I'm clear, because these is all confusing at this point...

If I fire the Gesen Bow aca pella, it does: 1d8 Elec damage +4 (hits as a +4 weapon)

Gesen Bow with normal arrows: 1d6 arrow damage, 1d8 Elec damage, +4 (hits as a non-magical weapon)

Gesen Bow with +2 arrows: 1d6 +2 arrow damage, 1d8 Elec damage, +4 (hits as a +2 weapon)

Gesen Bow with Acid Arrows: 1d6 arrow damage, 1d6 acid damage, 1d8 Elec damage, +4 (hits as +1 enchantment, as per Acid Arrows [please verify if Acid Arrows hit as +1])

So do I get it?

I think that's right on all counts, Death Rabbit, but I'm not entirely sure about acid arrows being +1.
(*gasp* arrows +3 are ToB! Hope Tal don't give ya heck. )

[IMG] I expect DR to edit out all ToB references. And Splunge, if you have a problem with how this board is run, leave. Because I won't apologize for our system to you, and I won't swallow sarcastic remarks either.

Sorry about the +3 arrows - I could've sworn there were +3 arrows available in SoA. Oh well.

Tal, I don't think he meant anything by it - just a friendly reminder to me. It's easy for me to forget too, because I almost always post in the ToB forum anyway. Maybe it's not my place to speak here, but I don't believe it was his intent to knock you or the boards.

    * wishes there was a "white flag" smilie *

Deathmage, no. Gesen Bow without any arrows does 2 physical (piercing) damage and 1d8 electrial damage.

I think everything else is correct.

Acid arrows are non-magical, despite them doing acid damage.

So am I getting it correct to say that if you want to maximize damage that its better to equip arrows in the Gesen and the Tasheron bow?

That appears to be the consensus, CXwinds. The trade-off is that. with arrows, you are limited to enemies requiring +2 weapons or lower.
(And Death Rabbit, your assessment of my previous comment is correct; I just used a poor choice of words :( )
