I guess the advantages of using a sorcerer are that you automatically learn spells every level, and that you don't have to choose your spells in advance. Are there any other advantages?
And what are the advantages of a mage?

[IMG] The advantages of a mage is that they can learn more spells than sorcerers. Sorcerers most pick certain spells with each levels, and mages learns spells from scrolls that they find during the game.

Also, mages get good experience after learning each spell. 1000 xp/1 level...so learning an 8-th level spell like simulacrum means +8000 xp to the party. This is the definite advantage of mages!

    Other sorcerous advantages include:

    * Since a sorcerer's int. score is relatively unimportant, you can distribute your ability scores to other things like dexterity and so forth.

    * Since a sorcerer can cast more spells at a given level than a mage (at least at levels available in BGII) he won't have to rest as often.

    * If you like a few spells and tend to cast them often, a sorcerer may tend to be more practical for you.

    * The sorcerer has access to learn *any* spell and doesn't have to wait to find some rare scroll that he really wants.

As to the problem of spells to which you want occasional access - that's what scrolls are for.
