Sorcerer vs. Wizard

Like I said BEFORE, usually by getting my arse kicked, reloading, and trying something new. But that doesn't apply to all situations, say you just entered a Beholder lair, then you can memorize all of the spells that are effective against beholders. From my experience with playing both of these classes, the Specialist is a lot better, and more fun to play as well.

I believe a Sorcerer also casts a little faster than a mage of the same level. I saw a good chart that showed the difference; something like 6/5, so a sorcerer can get off
six spells in the time a mage takes for five.

    Anybody got the detail?

What? The Sorcerer can cast more spells per level through most of the game, if that's what you mean, but in the end the Specialist catches up.

No, I mean casting speed. I think that the Sorcerer can cast spells faster than mages, by a little bit.

Ah, I really doubt it. Besides, there is always a pause after casting a spell, so casting speed really won't make that much of a difference in the number of spells you can get off. I'm sure they would've mentioned this somewhere.

In a crpg like this, a sorcerer would be ok since your options are limited anyway. But in p&p, wizard all the way. I mean come on you may be a 20th level sorcerer but you can't cast a stupid light cantrip if you haven't chosen it (or go and ask for a scroll from a wizard :p ).

[IMG] Ive played Sorcerer 2 times through the game, (2nd time cause i ended the game without doing many quests) I would suggest sorcerer for those who know what spells they will want to pick. With Sorcerer you will not be able to learn from scrolls, BUT you can pick them from the whole list. They will learn less spells, but will cast more. The thing that made me pick sorcerer over mage is that they can caste 6 lvl9 spells at lvl20, and a normal mage only casts 2 :( Thats a huge diff

I am loving playing both a specialist mage (Invoker) and a Sorcerer in my multiplayer game. What strength and varity! I was worried at first about party balance then I found the rhythm; cast, cast, cast. With my sorcerer I went with summoning spells first, allowing the mage to cover the dispelling and now my sorcerer gaining her 3rd & 4th selection of the level 3rd, 4th & 5th level spells; well all I say is Whoa! Now SHE covers the Breeching, dispells and summoning and my Invoker taking a major in blasting and minor in dispell.

Invoker, Conjurer, and Necromancer are my favorite specialist mages. Invoker loses Enchantment/Charm, Conjurer Divination, and Necromancer Illusion. Thing I don't like with the Sorcerer is that you're using the same spells all game...

I use sorcerer for same reason as I use one in p&p gaming, im too damn lazzy to wonder what spells i should memorise :) . Even my cleric and jah seem too keep same spells memorised at all times, hmm pity there arnt mad clerics who dont need to memorise spells like sorcerers do :(
