    Hoping this isn't too obscure, I'll add some other clues tomorrow if no-one seems to be getting close.

    Early Seattle rock/grunge band from the late 80's. Two members went on to form arguably the biggest Seattle band (discounting Nirvana due to lack of longevity). At one point these two also formed a tribute band (to the original group) with the lead singer of Soundgarden; called "Temple of the Dog".

    These are the opening lyrics from the opening track on the album.

    Well, based on your clues, the band is Mother Love Bone. I have the Temple of the Dog CD, but not the Mother Love Bone CD. I know Gossard and Ament went on to form Pearl Jam.

    Anyway, hopefully someone knows the name of the song.

    Carcaroth - it was uneven. There were some pretty good songs (even the popular one that got so much air time, but there were a few duds as well). Given iTunes and the like, I'd say you should sample the album and download only the ones that strike your fancy.
