[IMG] Would you pay life's pleasure to see me
Does it hurt? - For I want you to remain
I run your hair through, in another decade
Sumerland holds me in Sumerian haze

[EDIT] OK, Seems like I've got you by the balls with that one. Some hints may be in order:
    - they no longer exist
    - they are British
    - they wore dusty, old-fashioned cowboy-style clothing
    - pioneers of goth rock
    - hang yourself if you don't know their opus, you missed the most important thing since sliced bread
    - I mentioned them once in the "What song can't you get..." thread

Now do me the favour of guessing. Please.

Possibly Fields of the nephyn (or something like that). Description seems to fit.
I was introduced to them on a German exchange by the chap I was staying with.

Yes, it is the Fields Of The Nephilim. Song is "Last Exit For The Lost". Give it a try. It blew my mind when I first heard it. Normally, I don't care for what other people are listening to, but in this case I'll make an exception: every person should have heard them at least once before dying. It's a must.

    Run along, Carcaroth.

...just as well I like them nice and tight.
    You look like the type
That likes to smoke a big pipe
    Tonight could be your night
If you play your cards right.

OK, this may have been a little obscure.
    Clues for the weekend:
Song is called Shiney Happy People, but obviously not by REM.
    Genre is probably Indie.

I'm bumping this thread and requesting that Carcaroth give us the band and post a new quote. (Maybe this time from REM :)

Obviously too obscure, the band was called the Fatima Mansions.

    OK, more easy one.

    Moving up on second base
    Behind Nicholas van Whatsisface
    At 6 foot 6 and 100 tonnes
The undisputed king of the slums
    More alias's than Claus Barbie
The master butcher from Lea on Sea
    In a hatchback from Notredamn
    The one and only...

Oh yes, that, I have a cd with that song but it says: Carter U.S.M.
    Anyway, here is mine:

The sirensare screaming and the fires are howling
way down in the valley tonight,
there's a man in the shadows with a gun in his eyes
and a blade shining oh so bright...

That's enogh, is an easy one.
    (song duration: 9:48)

I never ever liked the smell in here
It's cold and wet and reeks of beer
The lights are turned out permanently
But that's OK 'cause I don't want to see

You have GOT to be kidding!

The song is by Chantal Kreviazuk (a local musician). She is barely known in Canada - I'm absolutely amazed you've heard of her in Switzerland.

Unfortunately, I can't think of the name of the song, so someone else still has a chance.

Maybe it's because the "clothing optional" ? But yes, she made the charts here. I don't think that's so surprising, as many Canadians are living here. That's propably they way it spread. But I can affirm chart entry and availability in the local record shop. I actually wasn't aware that she's not widely known. And you could get the lyrics in Italian, if you like.

Your answer's good enough for me, go on. Wayne, would have been the name.

Alrighty then. Well, since obscure Manitoba musicians seem to be popular lately (The Watchmen, Chantal Kreviazuk):

I should laugh, but I cry
Because your love has passed me by.
    You took me by surprise.
    You didn't realize
    That I was waiting
